Peugeot 106!! On the negative side- Only 2 doors(no good for getting mother in the back), No power steering( getting muscles like a navvy),tiny boot(my driver wont fit in the boot so I have to pay for a locker at the club) :(

On the positive side- Gets into really tight parking spots,Cheap tax and insurance, runs forever on £20 of fuel
always get lifts to long distance venues as nobody wants to go in my car!!

I love it really :)

Currently driveing a Xsara Picasso with the HDi engine, loads of poke for a small 1.6 engine, gives an average of between 54 & 56 mpg, though my previous Picasso (same specs) returned better mpg & performance.

love the Picasso to bits, but as I'm on my third one now, its perhaps time for a change.

TBH as I get older I'm hankering for more luxury & a sea of leather. Just wish I could get that with the practicality of what I currently drive.

Despite selling cars for over 22 years, they hold no interest for me whatsoever. Hence when given the choice of cars off the forecourt, I chose a Peugeot 307 Diesel estate! I am in the process of ditching this as of 1st April, because although it is a second hand car I still get caned on tax.
I took a smashing little Ford Escort in part exchange two weeks ago, 2000 (W) reg with 52k on the clock and full service history in absolutely immaculate condition. Car owed us £500.00 so I've bought that to run around in for the forseeable future. It'll do for me... ;)

That's the irony Smiffy, the Government on one side is wanting us to start driving more economic cars & yet hammers us even with very economical engines in any car registered after Y2K & so with their lack of forthought on the car tax front seems to be leaving many with no choice but to drive those pre Y2K planet killers

I'm driving a car that can return 54 to 56 mpg with ease & yet I still have to stump up £120 when I've seen other modern cars which have official CO2 figures lower than a magic figure only needing to £35 to tax them.

Okay, every new car built means more impact on the environment, but seems very odd considering how economic manufacturers are having to be with their designs these days.

Now its especially ironic considering the impact of Jet airliners on the environment far outstrips the impact of all the cars on the planet several times over. Its interesting to note when all air travel was suspended after the twin towers incident, that the polution in the city of London reduced significantly & that is with the increase in road traffic. Yet Air fuel does not suffer the leveys we as car drivers have to suffer.

If the government want is to encorage us to use public transport then they want to provide a public transport system across the rest of the country we could actually use.

There is no Rail link to where I work & a bus link that would not get me to & from work at the times I'd need to.

As for holidays I'd happily use the rail if the ticket prices were condusive.

The government keeps hitting us poor motorist with that big stick, yet no sign of a carrot its not suprising we as motorists dig our heals in & carry on driving our cars & Taking £35 cheapie plane fares when the same trip on the train with less impact on the environment would be over £120...

Madness, sheer madness.

As a golfer I'll always need a personal form of transport, to get me to most courses I need to play locally & even nationaly. But could envisage using Rail transport to get to certain Northern or Southern Links courses if it wasn't so expensive to do so. And would definitly use the train to take the strain to get me to work if they re-opened the link through to the town I work in.

Especially as yesterday we decided to take the train to Derby for a change. A return ticket was £5 each, so for £10 we had a full day shopping up in the next local city. If it'd just me going the price would have made sense, if you take into account fuel & parking fees. It was certinly less stressful than queueing up in the traffic on the A38 & through the city & trying to find parking spaces. But for two people the £10 total charge meant it really wasn't worth doing, appart from the fact it then gave me the oppertunity to have a couple of pints at lunchtime up in Derby, where as if I'd driven, the strongest thing I'd have had would have been a coffee. Oh I had a big mug of coffee too before we came back.

I know this is getting off topic & I'd still need to own a car, but give us all a decent public transport system & it'd be nice to put my feet up for a change, no matter how much I used to enjoy driving.

THIS IS REALLY INTERESTING

The much championed "eco-car" The Toyota Prius, in terms of manufacturing is THE MOST damaging car to the envirnoment in terms of its carbon footprint.

Parts are made and flown from all over the world. Rainforests are being torn down to mine the raw materials for the batteries.

This is FACT and the cold reality is, based on 12,000 miles per annum, it would take a prius 17 years to be back in credit in terms of carbon footprint.

It really is that crap.

And you get the knobs doing 6k a year buying them to cut their motoring costs!
The fact that the Prius costs about £5k more than the equivalent 1.6 petrol engined car doesn't even seem to come into the equation. An owner of a Prius would have to do about 100k a year for about 10 years to recoup the outlay in fuel savings...

The Prius is indeed a joke, especially considering in order to manufacture it, it means importing very specialist components & raw materials for it from much father afield than the average diesel would need.

Not only that but its a vile car & I've heard that in actual usage in the real world, the fuel usage is not much better than most other economical cars anyway. And that is as has been pointed out before you also take into acount the aditional costs to buy in the first place.

Its again one of those great ideas in theory/principle that's been ill thought out when it comes down to the practicalities of all the issues.

You would do very well to average 45mpg in a prius.

A vw polo 1.4tdi blue motion will average 70mpg and is cheaper to buy, FREE ROAD TAX and is bomb-proof reliable.

Most Toyota dealers cant even repair the electrics on a prius, which do fail.

I apologise if this offends any prius owners on here but, the prius is a car for prats who want to say "look at me, Im so trendy and eco-conscious"

I drive a transit connect for work and the wife has a 53 focus 1.6 which is a decent enough motor the boots a bit small, though we are looking to upgrade soon with having another baby on the way.

I just about get my bag in the boot and we've no chance of getting anything else in there with the pram she's got.

I remember Top Gear had an M3 BMW follow a Prius as it shot round their circuit and the MPG was 17 for the Prius and 19 for the M3. My nephew had a diesel Fiesta and pays £35 a year in road tax and he averages 18,000 miles a year, my wifes Beetle does 6,000 a year and costs £190 to tax . . . Forget road tax and just add 3p to a leitre of fuel.

Cool does that mean my M3 is eco-friendly then :) and can claim some of the £400 odd quid road tax back I've just been stung by ?

Oh I drive a E46 M3 Convertible. Just enough room for the clubs and trolley in the boot. Just.

I've been driving the GF's corsa for the last 7 days as BMW have had my engine in bits. Thank god it's all back together and all done under Warranty :D

I drive a 1998 Jaguar XJ8 3.2 litre saloon. Very comfortable, but I don't like the V8 engine much. I much prefer the prevous model, the XJ6 with the straight 6 engine. My wife has a 1989 Toyota MR2 Series 1. She has had it for about 15 years and won't be parted from it. Personally I think it's crap.

OK we have done the jobs thing and the dream car.

What car do you actually drive?

Mine is a Merc C63 AMG estate in black

I could take a cheap shot at starting a thread with such a blatant boast, but I'll play along. :)

BMW 320d Estate (for long journeys and family)
Mitsubishi Galant Estate (for golf and the hound)
A sort of Ford Puma....for fun and taking apart!!

oh, and, um....
