That's how I feel at the moment - so close to getting a few shots off my handicap - but just ever so tantalisingly out of reach!!

Played on Thursday night and scored 18 points over 9 holes. That included a 3 putt and an OOB so it could easily have 3 strokes better.

Then today 16 points (over 9 holes again) after getting myself stuck behind a tree on our second. Managed to get on the green in 3 and then 3 putted again! So nil points but could have been 1 with better putting. Then 3 putted the last too!!

One day I'll get it together - won't I?!?

thats how I feel after every round. Am on 28 but hit a lot of good shots followed by too many garbage ones. When long game is good short game sucks and vice versa

Am sure it will all come good in time, just takes a bit more practice, gametime and hopefully lead to a bit of consistency :)

yeah youve only dropped 5 shots off your handicap so far this year, have a bit more patience man!!! (ps: 22 handicappers are meant to have the odd bad hole)

your handicap will come down as it needs to until you find your level.

@fundy,

Those 5 shots off earlier this year felt like the start of a good trend - sadly the trends has stopped but I still feel close to getting 2 more off before the end of the year! I guess I'm in a little rut!

@G1BBO,

We'' get there! :)

yup, my aim is to get under 20 by November... not gonna give up if not but I have shot an 87 gross (par 69) before on my course just can't do it with a proper card in my hands or since I had my handicap lol :)

Even me,

Net 82 off 21hcp today medal round off whites but 34 stableford points.

If I could just bogey the holes I am getting doubles and triples on and keep the pars life would be so good.

Happy days.

Doc, if you're in trouble do you try the wonder recovery shot or take your medicine and wedge/9 iron back to the Fairway..?
Thats a starting point to avoid nightmare holes, not that they won't happen sometime :rolleyes:

All my trouble comes off the tee.

I take my 23 hybrid or 5 wood for safety and forget to commit.

Nob it off the tee, savage hook left or big gay slice OB.

Mostly on the holes where it's too dangerous to hit driver which normally I muller down the middle when I remember to sweep low an slow or send into the upper atmosphere when I come down too steep lol.

Just got some new to me MP30's today so have taken the woods out, put my 18 degree baffler in and will see how I fair in the slap tomorrow just hitting driver and the baffler off the tee.

If I get in the bad stuff then I take my medicine, short game is fairly good so can normally get on and two putt from 100yds,

Just playing safe kills me... And when I hit a good shot I end up in a divot or some knobs footprint when they haven't raked the bunker or a crow steals it, worlds unluckiest golfer lol.

Cheers

Steve...

I share the frustration. Played in a club match today (4bbb) and started off with three pars and a birdie to be -1 gross and 4 up in the match. In the end I had 36 points and didn't score on three holes. Played from 11-17 in +1 gross (hacked down the last) and so the game is definitely there. I've learned the lesson though of being confident and so have no real expectations about the stableford tomorrow. I'd love to be able to finally get it it click but would take a buffer zone or even a small cut as some sort of tangible proof of the way I'm hitting it

@Doc,

Seems we are all in the same predicament so no apology needed :)

I'm happy with my short iron game at the moment. I played a couple of cracking shots into the green yesterday leaving the ball reasonable close to the pin and then went on to 2 putt when a single was more deserved!

When I'm miles away on the greens I leave my first putt too far away to give myself any hope of a two putt.

And I still hit some absolute duffers off the tee on on the fairways.

Thing is, I kind of know it's all in there at the moment - the frustrating thing is not being able to get it all out at the same time! Some days I can hit loads of fairway but I miss the greens, next time I'm hitting the greens but loosing shots of the tee. And then of course I can hit fairways and greens and then miss the putts!

Im very guilty of trying to hit the ball too hard, especially if its into the wind or if I am recovering from a duffed drive.

Something inside makes me feel that if im going to get back on track i have to welly it, whereas the opposite is true

Nice smooth stroke with the hybrid is all it takes.

just got to reprogram my brain cell

@Fragger,

Never a truer word spoken (well typed).

Whenever I try to smash it I might was well fire it from a cannon on a rotating disc! Smooth and controlled for me means straight and true. Unfortunately I can't overcome the occasional relapse of wanting to really hurt the ball!
