The post about Valderama got me thinking, and I didn't want to hijack that thread.

I had a wander round by the 1st tee and 18th green there when I played San Roque a few years ago and was nearby. We got thrown out when we tried to take a picture of the 18th green, and generally they were the snootiest set of people I have ever seen at a golf club. We were well dressed, respectful and not presenting any trouble - and every time I think of Valderama that's the memory I have.

Any other votes for clubs who might be just a bit too much up themselves?

I can't remember the club now, but we had a society day there, and so we could all drink, we borrowed a coach. Now we off loaded from the coach, and the driver went off to park it in a nearby lorry park. He came back to play with us, but was told he couldn't as he was the driver of the coach.

Needless to say, we cancelled on the spot.

I tried to join Tyrells Wood in Leatherhead and they were soooo snobby! They even asked what car I would be parking in the club and my job! When this didnt appeal to them they tried to fob me off on a learning package and said I would be able to join as a full member until I "passed" the course and was approved by other coffin dodging members.

Had a run in this morning with a snob who wouldn't let me through, I am now adding snobs to my hate list!!!

My local course as a teenager was like that, even the juniors where snobs, I gave up due to them, I might have been playing on the tour if I hadnt stopped playing ;)

those who will be asking about your car are likely to be the city snobs, the truly uppercrust are as likely to still be driving an ancient moggie

I know many wealthy people who drive crap cars, they simply have no interest in cars whatsoever and see them purely as a means to an end and thats it.

I work with cars and I will never buy an expensive car for myself unless I end up seriously loaded.

I drive a 12 year old jaguar at the moment and before that a 9 year old merc.

The OP needn't have gone to Spain to find ''snooty'' golf clubs. He's got Parkstone and Ferndown on his doorstep. I remember seeing Manuel Ballesteros (Seve's brother) treated like a lump of s*** at Ferndown. Why? Because he wanted lunch and didn't have a collar and tie!

I have played a match at Tyrells Wood once and they were the most inhospitable hosts you can imagine once they got beat. They were just as unfriendly on the course. Bearing in mind this was a social match there was no help on lines or hazards from the tee and no social converstation between shots.

The atmosphere was so frosty our captain instructed us to leave before dinner. We immediately struck them off our list of fixtures and to my knowledge the club I was with still don't play them
