I know everyone has a whinge about slow play so heres mine, just played 18 , pars on first 3 holes playing 4th chap comes over to say that his fourball would be slow because they were playing the final, final of the witley chaser cup final, final or something. Then we were held up on every single tee while some one threw grass in the air, had 6 practice swings for each shot etc. Then on 16th 4hrs later same chap apologises for taking so long they had issues apparently, I wanted to say yeah mostly the d***h**d throwing up the grass on a calm day , come on if you have lost 2 holes in front let people through for gods sake, whinge over sorry

I have never understood clubs who have this policy that players playing the final of whatever should take precedence over anything else. Why should the normal rules of etiquette be thrown out of the window? If they are going to play slower than normal then common sense dictates that they should be more aware of the need to call faster groups through.

am playing in a knockout final tomorrow, wont be expecting or getting any courtesy of the course, if we hold people up we'll let them through, and if held up expect the same. Be shocked if we're more than 4 hours though looking at the 4 playing lol

Pros taking 5 hrs to play a two ball and phaffing about over every shot on TV won't help as an example of how to play 'when it really matters'. (Sweeping stereotype I know and apologies to the few who don't fall into this bracket).

Grrrrrrrrrr!

Interested to know what these "issues" were. Unless there was a medical problem then normal golfing etiqutte is quite clear. Call the others through. How hard is it to get this through to club members. Do they leave their common sense and etiquette in the locker room?

Slow play wouldn't be the issue it is if the 'slow' players let the faster players through promptly- everyone could play at their own pace and enjoy the sport in the way it was intended ! - but just a minute that's an old fashioned courtesy which seems to have vanished along with replacing divots and repairing pitch marks !!

Can understand your frustration had a similar situation last week playing Prestenfield GC in Edingburgh , playing on my own I caught a 4 ball up on the 5th tee which is a crossover hole stood and whatched them teeing off then I expected to be asked to play through but no not even a word from them,I even let two of them be served before me in the pro shop as they were waiting to tee off.

There was many chances for them to let me play through but they were never going to do this,it did get frustrating having to wait on every shot of the round from the 5th, but it was a nice day and a decent if not to difficult a course with good views of Arthers Seat and the surrounding area, but the fact that they wouldn't budge and let me through, took the shine of what was a pleasent day, spoke to the pro after the round and asked if these were members, which they were, the pro was embarrassed and couldn't apologize enough.
