Slow Play

Yeah, I thought this guy was being unreasonable; he shouted his comments without being in full possession of all the facts. I've seen him around the course/club, but fortunately don't know him nor do I want to.
roccokj; I'm pretty sure it wasn't you I was playing with.
*phew* :D

Calling a following group through should really only be done when the course is relatively quiet and they are obviously moving quicker than you.

When the course is busy you must endeavour to keep up with the group in front. Calling the following group through helps no-one. It puts them under pressure as they feel that they must get through as quickly as possible and that you are watching them, you are then waiting for them to clear, and the group behind are waiting for you. Overall, the whole following field could be delayed by 5 - 10 minutes because you called someone through.

Keep up

Stepped up onto the tee at 5 minutes to, and some *** member who was standing in the queue piped up "you're five minutes early" despite the fact that the 9th hole was completely clear so nobody was going to be pushing up our jacksie anyway and the 10th green was empty, as was the 11th tee. Bloody knob members

Pathetic jobsworth members like that really get my goat. The only rule for situations like that should be common sense: the 4ball were not going to cause anyone any problems and were aware of the situation behind and in front of them. So, just let them go Mr Member.

I think every club has their slow members, whether its due to their age, fitness or 30 practice swings for every duff.
I was attached to a 9 hole club years ago and there was a starter on the 1st/10th tee for the monthly medal.
A group came off the 9th and got to the 10th tee 2 clear holes behind the group in front. The group included a well know slow coach.
When he was asked to try and catch up with the group, he pointed out they were 2 holes in front of the group behind and carried on argueing until I thought it was going to come to blows.
The way he reacted, anyone would have thought he had been accused of murder. Needless to say he ruined the game for his playing partners and didn't rejoin the club the following season.

Where I grew up playing golf (Kirkcaldy GC) there was a sign on the notice board that read

A 2 ball MUST NOT take longer than 3 hours
A 3 ball MUST NOT take longer than 3 hours 15 mins
A 4 ball MUST NOT take longer than 3 hours 30 mins

I doubt it's still there :( :(

It won't be now they've added the extra 2,000 yards to the course and the trees have grown up ;)

Can't remember the last time i played in less than 4 hours - probably late one sunday afternoon last summer?

I can't abide slow play. Classic example a couple of weeks ago - 4 guys who appeared to be having nightmare rounds, 2 in deep rough on one side of the fairway, 2 in the rough on the other side. No one in front of them and I was in a 2 ball - did they call us through? No.

Execution.....its the only way they will learn.

I hate slow play, if it's quiet and people are holding a group up then they should call that group through. If its busy then the answer, as Leftie says, is to keep up with the group ahead!!

I used to always b*lls up though when being let through...added pressure and all that.

These days I get out saturday and sunday for a 7.15 ish start time, get home for 11 max and enjoy the rest of my day. Playing in the afternoons used to take at least 4 hours. Its not worth it, you get fed up and my concentration goes.

I have a good mate who, when waiting, ready to go, on the 1st tee at the old course, said to the starter, "will we just go then"

the reply was " you'll go when I tell you it's time to go !" ;)
