Take up a new sport (fed up of hearing  about it there's loads of threads on the subject)

holes 1 to 8 were going along at a nice pace then came to the 9th and there two other groups waiting. then after that we were waiting for just about every shot.
thing is the club knows who the main culprits are, but as usual sod all is done.

Had a fifteen minute wait on 17 and promptly lost a ball left OB when I finally go to hit my shot. It felt like starting again and I'd stiffened up. Not sure why it log jammed as we had been going round ok. It was slow but moving. Very frustrating but I finished with 39 points and blobbd two holes. Out in +2 gross only to promptly lose a ball on 10 after a wait on the tee

Under 4 hours for a medal at peak times, sounds like a good time too me. 20 mins on the tee does sound like bad times, however, just enjoy it, have a sit down chat with the folks your playing with and enjoy it. Granted some people do slow things up, not playing a provisional etc but that's life. The more you let it effect you the worse you Golf will become.

It's hard to regain momentum and concentrarion after a long wait. I hate slow play.

we all hate it and it's here to stay unless someone comes up with a solution, I just get fed up of coming on hear and listening to members moaning about it when there's loads of posts on the subject

Don't play in medals. The amount in your group is irrelevant. Sadly, when everyone has to finish each hole, this stuff is unavoidable.

Then again, quite how a group can take 20 minutes get out of the way is crazy.

In my opinion the main reason for slow play is....

GOLF TROLLEYS !

WRONG :D :D

It's too many golfers taking too long playing too many shots.

We can all (including most seniors) walk 4 - 4 1/2 miles in and hour and a half. It's the 3 HOURS it takes to hit the ball 80 - 100 times that takes the time.

You can do nothing about it, especially if your in a medal with a full entry. You can get through one lot but you can do nothing about the knock on effect when people ahead run into trouble.

What we need to do is just got on with it and the best players I know don’t let it bother them.

OK I'll get my tin hat on
I've just came back to playing golf after a 15 year break so I am seeing a lot of changes. When I played previously I'd say 70% of golfers carried their clubs with the remainder using trolleys. Now I'd say the figures are reversed.
My main points are:
When I hit a shot into the rough I take my clubs with me to look for the ball and when it's found I'm ready to play.
People using trolleys will leave the trolley on the fairway,
go look for their ball, find it, walk back to their trolley, get a club, walk back to their ball (hopefully having noted where it is so as to find it again), play shot, walk back to fairway and carry on.
Point 2:
It seems to me that if there's a group in front using trolleys, at least one of them always seems to leave it at the front of the green so after they putt out they're holding up play while they retrieve their trolley and then saunter to the next tee.

I guess that I just had it drummed into me from an early age by my father, grandfather, uncles etc. to consider other people on the course and to think about where you leave your clubs and above all play briskly
:D :D.

Its the attitude of the player rather than their method of transporting their clubs.
Many a time as a solo player I've waited behind carriers, Trolley-pullers, trolley-pushers and electrified ones too. It doesn't seem to make much difference.
The other week I caught a 4 ball on our 3rd hole. I waited on every shot after that. Mostly cards were marked on the greens and bags were left yards away from the right side of the green. Even when they lost balls there was no way they were going to let me through. Eventually, on the 10th I did get through as one of their number had to pay a visit. I then carried on and as I was going to the 18th green, they were just finishing the 13th. I estimated they (and me) would have taken over 5 hours to get round a 6000 yard course. Not acceptable, even in Medal play

Quite right Imurg it is the attitude of the player, last year i had an operation & wondered if i would be able to play again at all but i've bounced back & got the bug more than ever. Before this i prefered to carry my clubs but since my operation i've started to use a trolley to lighten the load on myself & i still keep up with all my playing partners who carry their clubs. Iaing your points are valid but i think it is about attitude & respecting other users of the course & not all of us should be tarred with this brush.
