slow play

In my opinion the main reason for slow play is....

Selfish Idiots!! That shouldn`t be on the course.

Quite a selfish attitude. Some people have walking difficulties and the likes, mind you the same can be said for people taking a stop watch to play golf which I find quite out of the nature of the game.

I experienced my pet hate on Sunday, a group in front not calling through when a ball is clearly lost. They were all looking for a ball at least 10 yards into the rough and could have easily played a group through in the time it took. Happened more than once but there was never even a sign that they would consider calling us through.

How slow can people be to come off the tee. Is it just me, but when I play, I am usually 50 yards ahead of my group by the time I reach the drives having worked out the yardage before I get there.
I also get accused of being a grumpy old man (aged 32 !!!)and anti social (which is true)
To speed us up, just be ready to move and be ready to play.

yes, that one bugs me, why are you still on the tee when you were leaving the green on a par five as I teed off?

and how long does it take to put the pin in and walk off the green?

don't get me wrong, I like the casual and relaxed, but there's casual and downright torpid!

It's hard to regain momentum and concentrarion after a long wait. I hate slow play.

we all hate it and it's here to stay unless someone comes up with a solution, I just get fed up of coming on hear and listening to members moaning about it when there's loads of posts on the subject

The more people that unite around a common topic, the more the message spreads. As this is a media that can do this quickly, why not discuss it openly rather than just accept it.
Old saying.....................'when good men do nothing'
I for one love to hear more and more people venting their frustrations at a long round caused by unnecessary actions(or lack of) by others.

There are times when nothing can be done, nor should be done, but there are many many times when something should be done. Why should others force anyone to play to their tune?

There are many rules of play in golf, but little effort by individuals, golf clubs and even pro's to set an example or create hard and fast rules that work.

My own view is that their is rarely any reason at all for a round of golf to take more than 4 hrs for a 4 ball. There is no physical reason and no technical reason. Add to this the various group traits and pressures of competition a 4 1/2 hr round is something I can live with, but beyond that is crazy. beyond that you are not really playing golf but just peeing your life away. :D

Its a golf subject, its a forum.....let it roll...

Almost all of us could walk most courses in 1 1/4 to 1 1/2 hours. Forget all that rubbish about trolleys/GPS being the cause of slow play. It's the golf that takes the time. In a typical 4 1/2 hour round that people have been moaning about, it's taking you 3 hours to find and hit your ball.
A rough average of about 2 mins a shot

I have seen on many courses signs that say you should take 45 mins to get here and 2 hours to here and so on.
The troubole, they are not 'policed'
Why cant clubs elect a marshall who goes around the course looking for empty holes especially in comps.
Does your club do this?

I dont think a marshall system would be that expensive overall. It could even be a volunteer basis on a busy day at the club, where a member wishing membership consessions may choose to do this job for reduced membership fee, is one example of how it could be accomplished, or a select group in shared responsibility to pick up the badge of office at the club, when it is busy. A club would probably gain more than it may lose by trying something like it.
