Friday morning Sandy Lyle finished his round 40 min ahead of the next group. Then, the next group were 15 min behind them. I seen 9 players in one hour. Did anyone get a penalty.......no.
Slow play penalty. R&A, rules.......bull.

Slow groups will have been warned, warned again and then picked up speed enough to come off the clock. The process begins again.
Maybe Lyle's group was playing fast......
They're putting grohps on the clock and have dished out a penalty - do you honestly think the R&A" pick" on certain people only..?

Yes.........as the following group were well behind.............just common sense, something the R&A lack. Tell me when a top player gets a penalty and I'll go along with you.

you don't get penalised for failing to play at the pace of the group in front, you get penalised for failing to meet your par timings. It would be ridiculous to do it as you suggest - the complete opposite to common sense.
if a top player get's penalised it will be because they (player and caddy) have decided that the circumstances mean that the penalty is worth it ie a concious decision to buy time for a shot penalty, or importantly, the caddy will have screwed up and will probably be fired. Not all caddies are either strong enough, or keep sufficent note of the timing.

Eh.......40 min gap and a 15 min gap, is that okay. A guy gets a penalty with no group behind. That is not common sense. No wonder his playing partner was not going to sign his card, the guy was fizzing.

1. irrelevant (repeating myself but I can't avoid it) - why should a player be penalised for playing at the expected speed just because the game in front plays a lot faster?
2. the group behind is irrelevant (again); they were put on the clock when there were groups behind. At the time the player was penalised they had clearly made some progress but not sufficient to get back on schedule and off the clock. Interestingly JW made no reference to having caught up the groups in front in his interview. JW may have been fizzing but he also made it clear that (1) the other guy had been slow up to that point (2) taking that long to play any shot wasn't appropriate. The card signing element should be considered in the context of the player wanting to ensure he was signing correctly as much as anything - it's an unusual situation to have such a penalty called and most players wouldn't know which hole score the penalty would be applied to!
Today pan faced Zach Johnson and Cabrera Bello were at one point 25 behind Moore and Cabrera and Johnson and Laird looked pig sick waiting on every shot.
Johnson was painful to watch.
Ban him for the next Major never mind a shot but again the R&A go for the easy picking.
