Slow Play on Tour - put on the clock

I see De Sham Boooo has caused another controversy after taking over 2 minutes to hit a 10 foot putt!!!

This farcical performance was compounded with him having to consult his own greens book/chart on three separate occasions before hitting his putt.

That sort of performance deserves a 2 shot penalty there and then with an automatic DQ should he repeat that performance again during the tournament.

It's been said a million times that fines are not the answer so penalty shots or a suspension for the next tournament need to be considered. Imagine how long and boring a 3 ball would be with JB, Bryson and Kevin Na!!!!

You do wonder just what they have to do to get a penalty?
The trouble is that the USGA just use the word "reasonable" in their definition of how long is allowed.
One person's reasonable is another person's glacier movement.
People are going to get bored, not go, switch off....
Then, with falling ratings and attendances sponsors will find other avenues for their money
And the Pros will suffer because there will be few big money events to play and they will all end up living under bushes somewhere.
Ok it's a worst case scenario but they really have got to get a hold of this and do something.

It's not a USGA issue. The Rules make wide provisions for any tournament organiser to set very strict PoP rules.
The PGA players (ie the organisation) don't want to introduce them and the sponsors have no interest in showing less TV. The longer it takes the more adverts that can be fitted in.
The TV rights produce more income than gate money of course.
As it happens, the R&A and the European Tour do have PoP procedures. I know the USGA were monitoring their own tournaments but am not sure if they introduced a policy with teeth.

I heard that he did this was because the next tee was very close to where his ball was and he wanted to let them tee off first and that's why he paced it out..
Not condoning it at all but if that was the reason then, on this occasion, he may have been ok..

Not condoning his actions at all Steve and I've seen the putting debacle. He needs shooting. And it's not the first time he's done it....this week!
And it is a convenient excuse but if his ball was that close to the next tee he may have had a point. I didn't see it so I can only go on what I've heard.
He's still a grade A Tool

Isn’t that an editing choice to show all 3 minutes? At most of the time of the tournament all holes are busy, someone must be swinging a club and worth showing instead.

There was a US major last year where they played 3 balls compressed into the morning because of bad weather coming. It was the best TV experience ever, basically always action on somewhere, like a highlight show.

I may be out of date but the PGA Tour rule for PoP is/was only concerned with time to complete the round for the first group and keeping up with the group ahead for all following groups. The standard for the first group is about 5 hours (depending on the course). Although some players may be slow taking their shots, I'n not sure that there are many or any gaps between groups.
When the LPGA introduced such a policy a few years ago for the US Women's Open, the time came down by 30 minutes from 5hr 40 min

Was on the commentary on sky, I have no idea whether those times were being met or not though which is the critical part really

I honestly don't think it helps any level of golfer taking excessive amounts of time before a shot. Golfing Slugs are a nuisance to play alongside or to watch.

If the likes of Rory and Koepka are getting exasperated, they have a nuclear option: refuse to enter a few events and explain it's because of slow play.
The loss of the megastar names will make the broadcasters sit up and take notice.
