Finally got hold of a bit of cash and went to test SLDR & SLDR S up against my Ping 20.

Not gonna go on too much but SLDR , SLDR S averaged 224 yards carry with a best hit of 229 yards carry.
My Ping G20 averaged 223 yards carry with a best hit of 233 yards carry.
The spin rate between them was nearly identical, So for me it just didn't improve my stats as I hoped.

One good thing I felt with the SLDR range is that I felt I could minimize my bad shots with it,
But I wasn't going to pay £299 or £229 just to hit a few less bad shots.

Anyone else try the SLDR range and not improved there numbers like many others have?

I had a go with my mates(obviously it wasn't set up for me),tbh I don't see what all the fuss is about. Maybe if I got fitted it would be a different story.
It's definitely got one of the worst looking head covers ever.

I went last weekend for a driver fitting as 10.5 degrees on my D13 is far too much now after undergoing a swing change. I tried i25 average 245 carry, Big Berther average 248 carry, SLDR 238 carry.

Ended up with the nike covert set at 8.5 for an average 252 carry total distance of 266.

I really didnt see what all the fuss was about with the SLDR

The SLDR might not improve the distance through the air much (it didn't for me). What it did improve was my ball flight and distance across the ground on landing. The lower spin means I don't lose as much distance in the wind as I can keep the ball down and also I get that extra run out.

Not everything works for everyone though or we would all have the same :D

Did you test at a proper TM fitting centre and try a range of shaft options?

No I didn't, But i only ever use Regular shaft with a carry of 225 ish, a regular shaft is right for me.

Not doubting but you get various types of regular shaft which will deliver various results (lower spin, lower launch etc etc), the only way to properly tell the difference is get fitted for what is right for you, only then can you tell for sure it makes no difference.

The SLDR technology is all about lofting up, all about the right loft and shaft for your swing, if you didn't get a proper fitting and all you did was try it on a range with a monitor then your results are not surprising.

I think comparisons are most valid when you get properly fitted. I went for a fitting for the SLDR. I gained about 6 yards, and it cut my spin considerably, which since I play on a windy links is very useful. The fitter however decided I would get a better result from the Jetspeed. Gained another 9 yards, (15 yards total over my old driver) and surprisingly reduced spin even further and reduced dispersion too. In real results on course I'm getting more than the extra 15 yards predicted on trackman because I'm getting more run from the reduced backspin and a shallower descent. My distance loss in the wind is significantly less than my old club as well. Following my experience, I have to say, no matter which club, or make of club I was choosing in the future, I would definitely get fitted for it.
