Skycaddie sub renewal?

This always niggles me. I would not have an objection to the subscription if the unit were sold as a loss leader (in a similar business model to razors and blades etc) you make your money off the subscription so sell the unit cheap. I would also not have a problem if you could use the GPS once the subscription has run out. If you only play a few local courses that have not changed, why pay for an annual update. The back dating of subscriptions is just a joke.

I know that they walk to courses so are more accurate (but I am sure a non subscription company are doing this now) but a couple of yards is going to make little difference at my level.

I've switched to a S1 and haven't seen my scores change 😉 have started to use the strokesaver occasionally whereas I used to use the hazard function on the skycaddie but I can't say that I miss it.

To be fair to the majority of uses although I accept not in the OP's example, they do send you regular warnings that the subs are going to run out and the device won't be usable. It always defaults to the anniversary of the expiration. The issue I see from a SC perspective is they could potentially get a lot of people calling saying they were unable to play for 6 months, a year or whatever and wanting the date changed to the date they repay the money and twelve months from that moment. How do they differentiate between valid cases like the OP?

Yep. Defaults back to anniversary, so De/Re registering is the way to overcome that. I believe that can even be done in the same name, but not 100% certain.

@Scrindle/Backwoodsman There's no valid 'can't use'/unusable argument. It's the customer's choice whether or not to use! Grumps may have a valid case, but maybe not worth the hassle.

@CMAC The 'accuracy' is a - quite effective - marketing ploy. I've seen 3 SkyCaddies giving 3 quite different readings far too often to actually believe/care about that! They are pretty responsive when notified of changes though.

Done.

Easy as and in the memory bank for my renewal time. Skycaddie always gives you a few months after the renewal date so by working the system you can delay renewal by a good few months if it is as easy as I found it tonight.

£10 admin fee duly charged to my Fither.;)

Not so I believe. If you don't pay, you lose the data you've downloaded and they become unusable for any courses except for those you've mapped yourself. You can't access any data for which you need to pay the subscription.
