Maurice Flitcroft was a crane driver in a Barrow shipyard. He played in an Open Qualifying @Pleasington Golf club with the father of the pro @our Club Cerys Cousins.
The R and A refunded his competition entrance fee. Should be a great watch

The guy sounds like an absolute bell end.

“Maurice Flitcroft ... was a chain-smoking shipyard crane-operator from Barrow-in-Furness whose persistent attempts to gatecrash the British Open golf championship produced a sense of humour failure among members of the golfing establishment.”

Sounds like someone who was just having a laugh - the perfect person to wind up the stuffy people of golf back then
