Sadly the days of sport on the BBC are pretty much numbered. As wages and prize money increases in sport they need an ever increasing income. Simple fact is that the BBC cannot afford it any more and just cannot justify paying out a reasonable precentage of their income on sport as it would mean that they could not fulfil their mandate.

The only thing that keeps sport on BBC and ITV is the need for competition and if ESPN up their game then they will bid on the packages that Sky do not have and that will be it, only protected sporting events on terrestrial TV.

Masters coverage (commentary aside) was one of the few things the bbc did well in my opinion. The ads on sky will annoy but they will do top job as they do with all other coverage.

It will be one of the few occassions the same event is on live through two broadcasters in the uk though will it not?

FA Cup final (maybe not now), World Cup Final and Queens speech (lol) are the only others that spring to mind?

Cricket has lost out to other sports because it is hardly seen on free to air tv. I have run junior cricket teams and the numbers got smaller as more and more cricket was on Sky.

Whilst it maybe a contributor I don't think it's the main reason numbers have dropped, not just cricket but all sports, clubs, etc.

Who's to say they are not in watching the cricket on Sky instead of playing it? ;)

Very good point, and golf has been in similar decline, again as SKY wrapped up all the European Tour, when the Beeb used to show half a dozen events annualy plus all the majors, and is now down to, what, 3?

I'm waiting for HD to become "free" rather than paying the £10 a month premium before I upgrade to that though. Hopefully with the introduction of 3D telly, it might become included. Because the HD stuff is FREAKING AWESOME!

Phone up and threaten them you are gonna cancel and they will give you it for £1 a month. Thats what I did.

I was paying £49 p/m for my tv package, I gave them a call and they have knocked it down to £39 p/m for the same package. It only took a phone call.
I can't stand the adverts on sky but with sky + it gives you the choice of missing them.

BBC is dead in the water, they have no interest in what the public want. If it wasn't for Eastbenders what else has the beeb got? (I dont watch that soap)...

I've just checked and SKY have put my subscription up 3 times in the last year without telling me.
I'll be speaking to them forthwith.
I'll let you know what they say.

As promised...
I phoned SKY on 08442 414 141 3 mins later...result. :)
Half price for the next 6 months a saving of £153. That's the full movie/sports package for £25.50 a month.
As I had already paid for Sept/Oct, they will credit me for next month's bill so for Oct I will £10 and £25.50 for Nov and Dec, a saving of £92, handy for Christmas :)
Dont just sit there.......... :D

Just phoned and got the same deal. :D :D

They said to ring back one month before deal runs out and they will see if they have any new offers.

Happy days. Thanks for the tip off.

Just to be clear. What should I be saying to them when I call up? I have a tendancy to not be very good at these things.

Should I just be: "Er...you've put my payments up without me knowing...What's the crack? give me cheaper stuff!"

I told them i was thinking of cancelling the subscription, and going else where. Immediately gave me an offer. Not sure if it is based on how long you have been with sky. I realise i have been subscribing since 1994

Perhaps they will give forum users a special rate for being such good complainers :D

I assume the first £19.99 saved will be used to purchase a V-Easy. Those that haven't already got one ;)
