Sky Sports Golf Coverage- Is it worth it?

you can haggle as well mate, get the best deal, it's such a competitive marketplace especially if you're not in contrcat with one of them

you dont need a bt line anymore for sky.

i pay about 50 a month for hd, all sports, internet and phone with free weekend and evening.

pretty sure thats better than any other provider.

thanks, I may be contacting them

then again I may not.

you may not need to get a BT line but if you don't you have to get Sky's - so either way £12 - £13 extra for that, plus another £40 to 'install' it.

I just switched to sky and didnt pay any installation charges.

I got free HD Sky+ box for downstairs and a free regular box for upstairs.

I had to re-wire the old telephone line as Virgin absolutely butchered it (which they arent allowed to do) when they disconnected BT and installed their services.

It was a bit of a drama as I had to get up a ladder, join it to the exisiting phone-line, run it down the house and join it to the other end that had been snipped. Saved me £149+vat though.

Yea, I'm surprised they're charging installation for a new customer.

I've been a Sky customer since Sky+ first came out and haven't really looked back. Sometimes through choice and sometimes not (my area doesn't have Virgin availability).

I'm tempted to upgrade to HD because they picture really is quite ridiculous, but I don't really want to pay the extra £10 a month for the privilege. I'm hoping that they waive the HD fee at some point like the did for the Sky+ fee when that was first released.

Alternatively, I might call them and threaten to leave for Virgin and hope they persuade me to stay by giving me a complimentary HD box.

I like watching the golf and it probably is worth it considering I watch a good few other sports.

The biggest bone of contention for me is the quality of the commentating. How many mistakes do those guys make!!

The most crazy one last night was Butch's No.1 shot in the USPGA history. Y.E.Yang into the 18th against Woods, or as butch called him K.J.Choi. You can kinda forgive the live mistakes but that was pre recoreded and should have been checked as it only made the fool look even more senile than he makes himself look on a regular basis.

As a sports nut I don't care really. With a box in the bedroom HID can bugger off and watch the soaps and I can flick through the sport channels. I do think their pricing is way too expensive but as a virtual monoploy that won't change until Ofwhatever get their backsides in gear. I would think about losing the movie channels to save a few quid if I needed to cut back

there's no installation charge for Sky itself, considering that we've just had a dish installed on the flats and break-in boxes in all the flats there had better not be. the £40 charges are solely related to the phone line.

Disappointed that there wasn't more highlights of the final round other than during the day on Monday (when I was at work). I would have liked to have watched the end but couldn't see it on anywhere. Very disappointing

I made a massive mistake on my "manual recording". Instead of recording from 10:35 on Sunday evening until 12:35 Monday Morning...I recorded right through to 12:35 monday AFTERNOON! 14 hours of Sky Sports 2 Programmes! And in the process deleted half the programmes left on my planner! Grr!!

You should have bought Tivo :)

You should get the box for free if you ask (nicely) they will still charge you the extra £10 a month though?

OT the golf coverage is grand. There's plenty of it (PGA) albeit a bit disjointed but that not Sky's fault. It's the American broadcasters. European Tour coverage is top notch as well as the catchup shows for the ladies, seniors and challenge tours.

I got rid of the movies. I work full time and like to watch the news both local and national after work then a couple of early evening programmes after which I'm usually too knackered to watch a film, if I try I fall asleep halfway through so the film channels just are not good enough of an investment for me. If I didn't work then I would get value but at maybe 3 films watched per week it's expensive.

I'm hoping that they waive the HD fee at some point like the did for the Sky+ fee when that was first released.

There was rumour on the AV Forums that Sky were going to do this and initially my interest was aroused in returning to Sky. I had Sky+ before and loved it, but refused to pay the additional costs for HD so purchased a FreeSat box with built in PVR but am getting cheesed off with the lack of HD content on FreeSat.
But I also hear that Sky are increasing the cost of HD packages, or trimming them back later this year (October I think) so they can stuff it. I'll stick with my FreeSat and just watch the little bit of golf the BBC shows now and again.

There are a lot on this forum alone that would go for a golf only package - and at a £10/month Sky would be making more than they are losing with their all or nothing approach. Multiply that by all the other 'minority' (ie non football) sports fanatics and there's a mint out there waiting to be mined.
