Sir Chris Hoy

The greatest, I feel he was right that it's Steve Redgrave still, but what a star, and by all accounts the nicest, most modest man you'll meet. I do hope that he does his own stadium in 2014!

Fantastic achievement and he comes across as class both on and off the track, but for my money gold at 5 consecutive Olympics just edges it out as greatest ever.

It was a superb ride, he dug deep and went hard when it mattered and is a truly inspiring champion and what a role model in a time where stardom seems to be what people look upto.

More role models like him please and waht an inspiration the cyclists have been. Sir Steve does edge it for me in the longevity of his achievement but both British Olympic legends in their own right

Who has won the most medals? For me that makes Sir Chris Hoy the best!

Cant take anything away from any of them, the records and achievements speak for themselves. Instead of turning it into a debate I think we should be celebrating the records of both and be proud of both.

Eh? ........make yer mind up!

Like Hoy I'd go for Redgrave as he didn't have the possibility to win more than 1 gold at a time. Hope Hoy makes it to his home games in 2 yrs.

I did not intend to make it a debate. I was just surprised that after a couple of days no one had even mentioned his sixth gold.
Sir Chris made a good point of 5 medals over 5 olympics for Redgrave so I think I shall agree with some of the previous posters and say that we are blessed with two superstars.

Hoy is superb... his sport is amazingly difficult with such small margins.... Redgrave did also share a boat so was part of a team whilst Hoy does have an individual aspect to consider. It's like comparing apples and oranges.

Will we be hailing Wiggins in 4 yrs when he passes both of them?

I loved the comment one of the comentators made about the Hoy winning the Bejing sprint.

'The sport is so fast I can remember saying, ''Hoy is last, he is completely boxed in, he's won''. All in the same breath.'
