Any Locksmith/Lock specialist here?

We have a uPVC main door with an old lock that has 3 point locking... It was all functioning well for over 10-15 years. Plenty of guest in the house this weekend and someone seems to have tried to force something.
Now when i close the door the usual spring loaded lock (the one in red below) does not close. It seems stuck in its slot. I can shut the door and turn the handle up and all the other bolts are working fine. Just the spring loaded one seems to sit there.

I put some WD40, but no movement. I am assuming that some connection is gone missing. Any expert advice.

On the back of the latch there is a screw. Loosen that off and see if it returns to the start position.
If not then you can replace he whole mechanism (no need to change the lock barrel as it's a separate mechanism).

He can change the cassette if they still exist 👍 Companies are constantly changing their door hardware, I know I have to reprogram our machines for them 🤣

That's the bit I meant, had to do ours a few months ago after the plastic retainer wore out and the latch wouldn't move. Took the old one out, got the part number and searhced for it. Wasn't cheap but neither is a replacement door.

which screw are you referring to.. Actual photo attached now.

Also i realised that we have a latch on the inside face plate (see arrow on second photo). Previously it would turn 90 degrees to lock/unlock. Now that is spinning around like a top.

The screw that's in the latch. First image, red arrow. loosen that off and see if it releases the latch. If not then it's likely the spring or the retainer has gone.
If it's the spring/retainer, remove the cassete (per Beezerk above), get the part number from it and find out if you can get a replacement.

I turned the screw in the first image... nothing happens.

Dumb Q for you and @Beezerk .. how do i get to the cassette... without having to rip apart the door!!!

There should be a metal strip that runs inside a channel the length of the door with about 7 or 8 screws holding it in place. Ususally, you have to remove handles, pop the lock cylinder out and then the locking bar mechanism should just slide out with the casette/latch mechanism.

I have a feelng that I need a professional here.. Above my pay grade. If i screw this up, it would either a jammed door or unlockable one... neither of them are options
 
Went to the bro in laws on Thursday, he has been in Oz for 5 1/2 weeks. We have been checking his house is ok. Left on Thursday and he could not open the door I had walked through 2 hrs earlier, he got a specialist out and £160 later it was fixed. 😖
