I heard on sky news today that it could be the end of single sex clubs in England, are you in one? What's your view?
There's still quite a few in Scotland and I played 2 of them this year, the clubhouse and atmosphere was archaic and stale but possibly just these 2.

Never played one and I can't think of a single reason why there should be any - Men Only or Ladies Only.
Some places need dragging into the 20th Century let alone the 21st...

out of curiosity did the all male golf club have female staff?behind the bar, waitressing etc?

i've never played at one and didn't realise any still existed until i seen it on the news aswell.i think they are trying to bring all the golf unions together to make just the one...if i heard it right.

I'd say have 1 in each county and then all the male chauvanistic asses can play together there and leave the rest of us to enjoy our mixed golf :)

Why anyone thinks these are a good idea is beyond me. It takes a seriously under-developed personality to want only to hang around people of the same gender. Weirdos.

Old Portmarnock is one but they had a court ruling against them a couple of years ago so they had to let women in so they just decided to close membership for the next 50 years.

Does course design work for ladies and gents?

I say this, as although the length can be shortened by moving the tees forward, often this also takes all the hazards out too. For instance drives over lakes are often avoided by putting the ladies tees on the other side.

If a course was designed soley for the ladies, would it be a good course for men to play, and vice versa?

Provided the ladies are fit they are more than welcome.

Just kidding. Absolutely no reason for a single sex golf club in my opinion. The more diverse a membership the better if you ask me. Obviously you would have to put a limit on the number of gingers but other than that....

Don't see the problem myself. If men want to have a club with only men in then they should be left to it. Women have their own groups e.g. Curves gyms and no one says anything about that. People of different colours, nationalities and religions also have their own clubs and societies. Why is it suddenly a problem when a gender (specifically male) wants to do it as well?

Agree totaly, just seen a bit about it on sky sports and one woman saying how terrible it is in this day and age to have single sex clubs.

I bet she's no issue with the fact there's women only insurance as well as golf clubs. If i wanted to go swimming tonight at the local sports centre i couldn't, guess what its women only night. not that i would want to go to a men only night:)
