Should we have two handicaps

The Slope system actually removes the distortion that Seniors (as opposed to 'Full Club' comps introduces! Of course, it also removes the CSS adjustment totally!

Not neccessarily. In Germany, the slope system and CSS adjustment coexisted peacefully for several years until the CSS was abandoned in 2016. It did make calculation of results rather complicated, though (which was the main argument for giving it up). Now how other players play in the same comp (and therefore playing conditions like the weather) does not influence your handicap at all any more.

I think you have that the wrong way round!

Playing conditions on the day, such as the weather, will fundamentally affect how you score and therefore your handicap. No checks and balances left.

On the other hand how other do, or don't, deal with such challenges only impacts the results not your handicap.

How is the CSS calculated then? I was under the impression it is calculated on the scoring average of that day. So let's say, weather is fair, but all your co-competitors have been at a wild party the night before and are still hung over, therefore not playing their best, wouldn't that bring the CSS down, making your own result better in comparison, for handicap purposes as well? I was under the impression that's how it worked, but I might be wrong. As I said, it was always quite complicated to calculate in Germany, I admittedly never really got into it and just accepted the results as they came out.

I was posting in response to your statement "Now how other players play in the same comp (and therefore playing conditions like the weather) does not influence your handicap at all any more
Read more at http://forums.golf-monthly.co.uk/showthread.php?92486-Should-we-have-two-handicaps/page3#LCfJHoFDXjYw0UQD.99" specifically other players ...and therefore playing conditions like the weather.

I think you are on the right track 're the calculations except
1. It's not an average of actual performance - what's relevant is the % of the field that play to their buffer or better (doesnt matter how much better)
2. In you last post the poor performance of this group would put the CSS up, not bring it down, if as a group they were significant in the results.
2.

Thanks, yes, of course. I always think in Stableford points, because that is how 90 % of our comps are done and how the handicap is calculated, so I was thinking CBA (buffer adjustment) instead of CSS there.
