should Tiger still be world no 1?

The statement that This has to be the most ridiculous and ill thought thread in the history of this forum is a bit harsh.

I'm sure if you review past threads you'll find other which you might find equally ridiculous but others think are worth discussing after all it is a forum.

Perhaps we should try and find them? :D x

I am not a Tiger fan at all but I can't agree with the OP.

Tiger has built up enough points in the events he has played in to help him climb the ladder and put a significant gap between himself and second place, that is the ldea of points, when your that good and you open so much of a lead it stays that way untill someone as good or better starts to close the gap by acquiring as many points or more as he has done.

Just like cricket, you try to score as many runs to put distance between your team and the oppos. It would be like deducting the points of the batsman as they are bowled out. Pointless!

Sorry, but a crazy post imo. You can't just deduct his world points because of what has happened, or because he might not play for 6 or 12 months. If they did that for everyone where would we be (e.g John Daly and his many transgressions, Nick Faldo for his divorces, Greg Norman for his divorce, etc). You have to just let him slip back towards the others through not playing. His current lead is large, but not insurmountable.

Agreed

Excellent post

Absolutely....why shouldn't he!! Is there something in the small print that says points no-longer count if you transgress.

He'll be there until such a time when someone has more ranking points than him regardless of him playing or not.

Just because he did what he's done dosent mean they should take #1 away from Tiger IMO......Now if he had been caught taking some drugs or cheating on the course then yes they would have every right to take it away from him.......its not like he killed anyone......
Tiger will be Number 1 until Rory McIlroy finds a putter that suits him................

Firstly apologies for the posting I thought the forum was there for people to ask a question and for others to discuss
because it seems This has to be the most ridiculous and ill thought thread in the history of this forum.

The OP was a question should Tiger still be No1 because of not playing not because of what hes admitted.

I asked the same question at my club today and most people think he should still be No1 as most people do above,
and anyway he will be back in action by the masters.

15th post and quite probably my last
and I hope Rory finds the putter to suit him and if he does I want one aswell because my winter league partner says I cant putt for toffee

Sorry Chrimbo but this really is rubbish. He has earned the right to be called number one and until someone puts in consistant enough performances to earn more ranking points than him then he deserves to be still called the World No1. As others have said, the longer he is out the smaller his margin will become and so others will have the chance to surpass him. As it happens I think he'll be back for the Masters anyway. I can see him playing in maybe the WGC events, the majors (maybe not the Open) and just enough USPGA events to keep his card

I just don't understand a system that lets someone who has said they don't know if or when they will play again still be No.1 in the rankings. Perhaps the system does ned to be changed.

Who knows he may never play this year.

Maybe the initial post should have gone under the title "Is the World Ranking System Flawed - Discuss" that would have been a better option.

;)

a more interesting point (who's Tigger?) is what numbers will Button and Braun have next year.

I recall, I think, a team racing with 0 and 2, so does the No 1 go with driver or team?

A bit off for Braun if after the season they had they drive under 3 or 4.
