Didn't hear a shout of fore, clouts a young lad on the head and ricochets OB.........justice is done perhaps??

If I got conked on the head I would be expecting a lot more than a glove. He barely looked bothered at all.

I tweeted about this earlier about golfer's who seem to think that a 'signed glove' is an acceptable apology.

Rory didn't shout 'Fore' form the tee, if this happened at Club Golf Level, you'd best have golf insurance because if you didn't shout 'fore' the person who got hit would be no doubt be looking at damages.

Baffles me.

He's probably a northerner. No sense of pain. Probably got a wet bum too, from sitting on the grass. No sense below the waist either.

What a daft thread, did he deserve it.... never heard the likes of it!!

From memory you cant see down the right off the teebox, its not like he was down the middle of the fairway.

I don't see why spectators can't make a claim if they get hit at a pro tournament. Is there some wording on the ticket to say you waive any right to claim? To many of these players seem to rely on a bounce back from the crowd to stop them going into the deep bundu.

From my memory if it's heading off line you should shout a warning, that warning being "fore"!
If he had shouted and the lad ducked and covered his head (stock reaction) the ball would have missed him and stayed in bounds...karma ;)

Daft thread? We'll put it with your anti hybrid posts when you struggle to break 80;)

We tend to forget how dangerous golf can be. Earlier this year I was in a 4-ball when one of the players was hit on the temple just above the ear by a wayward drive from another hole. He was out for the count for 20 minutes and it was 40 minutes before the ambulance arrived. It was bad but very close to being much worse - the blood and swelling was horrific.

I know that you kind of accept that when you go to a golf event but you hope that your well being is being looked out for. A shout of fore is the least that they can do. For the seriousness of the injury I hope that Rory does a little more in retrospect.

That'll never happen :D

I agree that they should should fore, but if you can see the tee you should be able to see the stewards waving the placards in the direction of the shot.
Unless there's some sort of permanent damage done by a stray shot suggestions of making a claim are a bit OTT.

It's no different to getting hit in the face by a ball at a football match( maybe more painfull though)

Here you go mate, a nice white glove, that'll make your skull feel much better, now where is my ball.

Totally serves him right. With a bit of luck he'll miss the cut.

So when you have a bad day at the office will you be getting laid off for the rest of the week with no pay?

Dam right he deserved it. These pampered pro's need to realise that they can kill someone with a wayward drive. The public deserve to be protected not seen as buffer to stop waywrd drives going deeper into the cabbage.

Wrong way round. He asked where his ball had gone before he, belatedly, asked the guy if he was ok. That, on top of no shout = very disappointing.

Rubbish.

For a start how are you supposed to hear a shout from 300 yards away when the tee isnt in sight?

It's a risk of attending same as going to the cricket.

The ticket will no doubt have a disclaimer on the back anyway.

If you want to get all 'elf 'n safety' about golf tournaments then they may as well just ban all spectators just in case someone gets hit.

you only hear what's picked up on microphones, that are now extremely focused

the people that would have shouted are the marshals in the area, and no-one is pointing a microphone their way.

a shout of fore by the golfer on the tee to people watching his shot is totally pointless - the marshal on the tee is indicating the direction of the shot, and the player will often also indicate a wayward shot.

the situation is completely different from shots, wayward or otherwise, hit towards unsuspecting individuals or blind areas that might contain unsuspecting individuals by the only person, or people, who know where it's gone.
