Midsize +4 grips - who are they for?

If you are going from standard to midsize definitely worth trying just one club first.
For me too thick a grip leads to blocked shots

golfpride has an online grip fitting tool

The annoying thing is it’s cheaper to buy the grips in bulk. But yeah if I could try one First out that would be ideal.

Did the fitting tool first with glove size and was recommended standard. Then did it again with actual hand measurement and got midsize. 😆

If you have any other grips lying around one of the ways to try is to add extra layers of tape before fitting the grip.

As you have already read +4 is equivalent o an extra 4 layers but on the lower area of the grip only.

I have read that it is 2 extra layers of tape to go from standard to midsize.

I’ve got a grip with a broken shaft so I could experiment with that. Tho the article below says that’s not a good idea. Nothing is straight forward!

For my own stuff I have been fitting grips and building clubs for so long I know what I like and use, a lot of it learnt early on by trial and error.
Biggest mistake made early on was not knowing shaft tips can be different sizes.

You Tube and the net in general has made a huge difference to learning 'how to'.

Hope the OP doesn’t mind me jumping on this thread, thought it better than starting a new one…

I’m looking to get my irons regripped. They’re currently midsize multi compound. I’ve had a look at the size guide on the golf pride website, and measuring my hand I’m right on the border of needing standard or midsize.

What are the likely affects of having the wrong size grips? It’s not as though you can really test them side by side. And being borderline, would there be much difference anyway?

My personal experience (not a fitter) is to go with the larger size.

Hardly any difference size wise.
But it feels a big change in your hands at first.
Two rounds you won’t know the difference.

If there to small your gripping to hard and can turn the face over so hooking the ball, to big it’s a push.
This is dependent on a consistent swing path 😉

I think it's, as much as anything, down to what feels comfortable.
Size matters (Ooh er) but the correct size grip that feels uncomfortable is worse than an incorrect size that feels good for me...
As well as the small/left, large/right issues, too small a grip can also lead to too much pressure which isn't good....

Update: I fitted a Tour Pride Velvet midsize +4 to my 5 iron to test it out. Took it out today and didn't like it! lol I know it was literally only 2-3 swings with it so it might take getting used to but first impressions were that it felt too big. Like I couldn't get a good release on it. I found that strange as I think my jumbo pistol grip on the putter is too small. Though I'm not swinging that one!

So now I have one club with an undersized grip, one midsize, and the others standard. Honestly, I swing it best with the undersized grip for some reason.

I’ve just switched to midsize +4s and I’m wondering why I didn’t do it sooner. They feel great. Feels like I’ve got more control over the club. You particularly notice it when you hit shots where you’ve chocked down on the grip and it still feels like a proper grip in your hands. I haven’t got big hands and I used to use a regular grip with 3 layers of tape. I’m fully converted. I’ve currently only got them on my irons and 3 wood so I’ll change the rest of my grips over soon.

Out of curiosity were you more of a hooker or slicer at all before the grips change?

I read that they seem to help people who tend to hook the ball.
