Sergio Garcia...the end?

I'm not sorry for Sergio at all, in fact i'm properly jealous!

A collegue at works friend (female...before all the jokes)is seriously fit and gave Sergio something to smile about on the Sunday night after the Open was last at Troon in 2004...if i were him i'd still be smiling!

Strange he did not practice before his round. Maybe he was not well, or carrying an injury ? In the second round he said he was not hitting the ball well, yet next day the word from his caddie was that he was hitting it so well he didn't need to practice. :D

Thing is he clearly has some desire left for the game. It isn't like he'd have to scrimp for a few bob to put petrol in the car(s) or worry about his pension. He is still out there becasue he believes he can still compete. I don't think a US Open is the best barometer of where his game is as it is a tough exam for anyone not called Rory McIlroy. Maybe it was frustration at being forced to create such a fantastic up and down rather than enjoying converting it.

I do think had he held on at Carnoustie he'd have kicked on again but then again the break up with Norman's daughter may still have happened and caused a lot of the misery and lack of love for practicing anyway. We may never know

He's found something thats keeping him going and he seems to like the PGA tour. OK, 82nd in the fed ex cup standings aint great, but he's had a top 10 and as long as he gets it round Congressional in something half decent he will jump up the rankings.

I reckon we will see a resurgence from him, he's only 31 !!

Sergio is one of the finest ball strikers in the game,he is also one of the most gifted shot makers, maybe not on a par with Seve (RIP),but still able to see,and execute so amazing recovery shots.
His problem is simply his putting from mid range. He seems able to drain putts from miles away, but once he gets within 15 feet,he always seems to 2 putt, and at that level, thats simply not good enough.
During his shoe kicking yoof,he just lined up the putt and stroked it in,now he looks stiff and awkward over the ball, almost as if he doesn't want to putt.

I have no time for all of this Sergio sympathy business, if he cannot putt after all of his personal one to one training with the finest teachers in the world then he should take his millions and pack it in and go live on a boat in the caribbean or somewhere. "Sergio one of the finest ball strikers of his generation" well that's as maybe but the game is about getting it in the hole. Langer went through this but found a way to get over it and move on.He has all the resources to do the same at his disposal. Fix it or pack it in.

A bit harsh shanker!
Harsh? Sorry, but I disagree. I do know a very good young golfer here in Spain who met Garcia and Harrington. Told his dad that Padraig was a gent and Sergio was a t***. That from one of his countrymen! He´s also shown by his comments that he´s a sore loser. I´ll accept that he can strike a golf ball as well as anybody (Woods and McIlroy included) but if he can´t putt now, he never will.

Well, sergio has had a great 4 days in Germany, has finally put 4 great rounds together and just lost out on a play off for the win, putts going in all over, and smiles throughout, Sergio is back and is going nowhere. This might have rekindled the fire!

Was gonna post a reply to this thread myself. A good showing at the US Open and another good week this week, Sergio ain't finished yet.

I think he has mental issues on the course and the longer it takes to win another comp the harder it will become mentally.

Once he gets that win we will see a hugely talented golfer improve drastically imo.

I seriously think he represents value at St Georges. He is in form (and played last week to fininsh in the top 4 to get into the Open, which he did) and St Georges presesnts an element of randomness in its winners. Furthermore, he likes links golf. Must be a decent price.

Ok - shoot me down!

Matt

I watched him at the Open at Turnberry a few years back, on the way to the first tee pro's pass between the crowds and sign autographs/gentle pleasantries/smiles etc etc Garcia grabbed a youngs boys autograph book and kept walking while scribbling........5 or 6 paces later he threw it back over his head to land in the dirt nowhere near the young lad who's face was upset, a marshal had to retrieve it for the lad who probably held garcia as his idol.......you don't treat your fans-nor anyone- like that.....he's an arrogant tw*t and doesnt deserve the support until he starts earning it!
