I am looking for some indication of where the Senior Captain in your Golf Club sits in the structure. Does he simply run the Seniors Section such as matches and social or does he sit on the main board/committee or other golf committees in your club. How does the role function in your club? To put this in perspective my Club has approx 1000 members, of which 67% are seniors and the Senior Captain here runs matches and social activities, but sits on no other official committees.

Our Seniors' Section is completely separate from the General Committee and the Board of Directors. Members of the Seniors' Committee have no special entitlement although they can if elected at the AGM.
The SS C'ee has specific functions for members of that c'ee (eg matches, social, comps, roll ups)

Thank you. That’s how it is set up at our club so we are no different I was simply wondering whether we were the norm.

Same at Newport. Seniors Capt has no role/mandate outside Seniors Section.

Senior Captain only looks after the Senior section in regards their comps and matches

No position on the board - they did put a motion it to be on the board but was turned down because we have a club captain who is captain of the whole club and can cover any needs of a senior section

Exactly the same where I play

We don't have an overall "club captain". There are mens, ladies, senior and junior captains.
None of them are on the management board.
All except the junior captain are part of the "golf committee".

Not on the Board ( Ladies and Mens Captains are Board Members), but does sit on the Entertainment Committee.

We haven't had a seniors captain for the last couple of years (no-one willing to step forward). When we do, they have various responsibilities within the senior section only (e.g. matches, etc.), and they sit on the main members committee as the senior section representative.

Thanks. So in your Club the Seniors Captain does sits on the main Committee or the equivalent of the Board of the Club. Hence my initial question really because I am also aware of this in other clubs but this definitely the exception.

In effect, yes. We are a privately owned club, so the members committee has limited power & influence.

We are a members club. Our Seniors Captain sits on the Captains Committee along with the Women’s Captain and the Juniors Captain and representatives of other members groups, this committee only deals with competitions and social matters.
The Seniors Captain does not sit on the Board which has elected members as Directors and deals with all financial and major running of the club issues.
In the past we had a very large Council to run the club and all the various Captains sat on it and had a vote - we changed our constitution not least because ‘single issue’ members were sometimes a problem and were not democratically elected.

We have never had a Seniors Captain.

OP Have you the correct % of Seniors Members? 670 Senior Members seems extremely high. Not that it matters in any event.

67%of the Men I believe. I think part of our thinking is that such a high proportion does matter. However I was really interested in what other Clubs do.

We have a Senior Chairman of the Senior's committee

They have an automatic place on the Captains committee.

We have a board of Directors who are all elected.
