Hi all,

I recentley sold my Ping putter on ebay. The putter had some light marks on it which were shown in the pics and where described. However the buyer who has now received the putter says he would like a refund as its not a genuine Ping club.

However, I bought the club from a Ping dealer brand new and the serial number is legitimate so what can I do? The same dealer offered me a trade in value of more than what I sold for ebay, but I have since bought a putter elsewhere.

I have explained to the buyer that I am concerned that the club is fake and that to verify his findings, and he can prove the club is fake I will give him a full refund.

Is it just me or is ebay a pain in the a$$?

I have a cracking ebay story - but it cant be released for a week or two yet until I get it sorted.

Outline - I bought clubs from a big name (I will name and shame soon) these have been changed from standard - I did not know and have a big fight on my hands.

Tell him to sod off, he obviously does not like the putter now he has it in his hands. Perhaps if he had said this in the first place you could have been more reasonable.

Well I bought the club brand new from a authorised Ping dealer so I have my receipt and doubt that they would sell a new fake Ping club. I have contacted Ping customer to verify the club and if they say it is fake then I will have to refund the guy and take it up with the dealer I bought if from.

I will be very suprised if this is the case, but if that does happen then I will not be a happy chappy at all.

Why does he believe it to be fake?

If it don’t work on four footers all of my putters have been fake!

I bought my driver off ebay, i was convinced it was fake as it didn't seem to work. Asked the pro at my club to give it a wack, bosh straight down the middle 300+ yds.

Turns out it is definitely real which points to fact that my swings isn't built for drivers.

Sorry for my earlier hijack - I forgot to ask you if you have checked if it was changed etc before you sent it on.

The fella who bought my stuff thought they where fake but the pro proved they where genuine with modifications.

As you say its a pain in the rear sometimes.

The receipt should be sufficient to show that it was, as far as you were concerned, genuine. Would suggest that you get te buyer to call Ping who will verify the serial number.

Sounds like your Buyer is trying it on.

you've contacted Ping, which is nearly all you can do at present. while you're waiting for their response get on to ebay and present your case (ie that he has disputed, you believe that he has just changed his mind but are checking with the manufacturer and that you will refund only if it does not prove genuine). you can be sure he will be and it will be a real pain trying to get re-instated.

Oh well, I have had a response from Ping after sending photos and the serial number who said that my club looks like a Ping club but they don't have a record of the serial number. They have said that this probably due to the fact that they didnt start recording serial numbers until 2006 and my putter was ordered by AMG in 2005.

Ping have offered to verify the putter for free, so I have told my buyer to send it to them for 100% verificaiton and if it is a fake then I will give him a refund for all of his costs.

He has sinced replied saying that he doesnt like the feel of it and wants a refund. I have told him the product is as described and that if he can't get on with it that is not my problem, that is the reason I sold it.

Is it me or do you agree that this guy is being unreasonable?

Thanks,

Kev

The guy is an ass, if using a fake claim to get out of being a fool for buying a club he hasnt tried (I myself have done this but mine was fake) it isnt your fault and I would report his actions to EBay as he was/is trying to con you.

you must get on to ebay. jon can confirm if this is correct or not but he could get you blocked.

I'm certain that 'I don't like it/want it anymore' is not a reasonable reason.

Make sure that the club that he claims is fake is the one you sent him.
He may already have a fake in his posession and he is trying to make a switch via Ebay.
That was my first thought on this matter.

Its a funny business EBay, 5 years ago there was real bargins to be had now not so many. I read a thread on EBay about a seller sick of other people selling fake Callaway shirts, quoted from the thread:-

Bangbangjohn was a good example (who i am pleased to say has been kicked off ebay) Over the last few months he had 24 Neutral feedbacks and 29 Negative feedbacks - buyers protested at his fake items but everyone kept buying - he sold a massive 813 fake shirts on ebay over the last year - how can this be allowed to happen!!

they are fakes not clones grrrr

It's not your fault that he has gone and bought the wrong putter for himself. If you take it back (a) you wont have to pay postage and (b) didn't you say that the dealer was offering you a comparable trade in value and (c) you could put on eBay again (unless you're completely fed up with it)? If you don't take it back let the guy know that the dealer will offer similar cash for p/ex but wait until you get +ve feedback before leaving yours. Don't be pressured to fix something which is not your fault - be helpful but don't get rolled.
