Started year on 19.4 currently stand at 19.3. Played well in March/April when most comps were non qualifing, played poorlt mid season but since July my game has improved.
Made the Semi Final of the individual matchplay.
Class R/U in two medals, won a few weekly stableford competitions.
Society season just finished played poorly up to the last 4 outings and came second in our Captains Day last Saturday.
Happy with the way i am playing at the moment.
Looking forward to my 5 days golfing in the Algarve from next Wednesday.

Have been please with the season started with a H,Cap of 27 and had a goal of getting to under 20 well am now off 18 so am very pleased but is as been blood sweat and tears and some. Need to work on my driving over the winter and more on the short game my goal for 09 is to get to around 15 i feel if i set a goal then it gives me a real focus and challange.

Good luck to you all for next season

Start of season 11.4
End of Season 10.1

Played in a dozen medals, only went up in two, was buffer or better in the rest. Target for single figures not met, largely down to poor putting, ironically starting to putt better now.

Am I a better golfer now than I was last year? YES, so quite pleased with that.

Following on from Cernunnos' post, I love winter golf, we have a team of 8 that plays weekly sweeps, taking advantage of all the winter rates (rosemount, scotscraig, drumoig, ladybank £25 or less, how could you not go!!).

Have our own handicap sec for the winter too, last year I was playing off 4 before the season started, thought that would stand me in good stead for my single figure goal, but alas!

Got another winter coaching program with Kevin Craggs too, really looking forward to that.

Fairly limited medal/Stableford schedule for me this year what with work commitments and a new addition to the family late last year. Think I might have mustered 9 comps with one to go - the Blundell Cup on 11th Oct.

Started at 4.9
Briefly got back to 4.7
Currently at 5.2 after 3 consecutive low 80s rounds of stunning mediocrity
Played 9; up 0.1 in 5; buffer in 3; cut 0.2 once

Not quite what I was after, but have thrown 3 good rounds away with the chequered flag in sight - usually a pull or hook with a long club with a couple of holes to go costing me a double. So am currently addressing my long game line-up - very happy with my Callaway Hyper X driver and my Mizuno MP FliHi 3-iron but the one or two clubs in between have cost me a great chance at getting down to 4 this year. Maybe 2009...

I’m all golfed out. Started the season at 6.4, got down to 5.8, now at 6.7 and all because of the odd hook that’s cost me dearly in most medal rounds. Having said that, in machplay it’s a different story. I’m the senior club champion, beating two past winners on the way. I’m also, along with my partner, the summer foursome champion, a trophy I’ve won three times now…..the first time being 24 years ago. The foursomes win was more satisfying in a funny way as we beat the holders in the first round and we also beat some young whippersnappers in the semis and the final. I can’t remember concentrating and putting as well as I have been in these matches and it’s amazing the attitude by some of the young guys who think length off the tee is the only measure in golf while I putt them off the park big time.

I’ve been to the pro a few times and we’re working on that rough hook. It never fails to amaze me the amount of golfers who take tips from their mates, spend loads on gear and yet won’t go to the pro.

I suppose my most satisfying medal was at he new club I joined this year. After being told by one or two people “aye you’ll struggle playing to your handicap here” I proceeded to shoot a gross 3 over par 73 to firmly clamp their mouths shut.

The GM forum meet a the Glen was a good day and I might just manage a sneaky round with John Findlay before we go to his home turf in a few weeks time.

That’s about it, one or two medal opportunities yet, but I’m ready for a break.

Started season on 14.9, set myself a realistic target of a playing handicap of 13 for season end. Managed to get a .6 cut in last comp of season on sunday to take me to 13.1, so target achieved, just.
Third place on Captains Day, semi final of the singles, won a monthly medal and being picked to represent club in inter-club matches and a couple of charity events represents not too bad a season.

Putting needs some work over the winter and maybe investment in some new irons before setting target for next season.

Started the year at 12.2 and I am now 12.6.

Played in 15 medals, 11 buffers and up .1 in the other 4.

Had some poor finishes in those 11 buffers. Short par 4 16th to an island green seems to cause problems. The other 4 rounds produced three birdies at this hole though!!

Good year for me down from 7.2 to 4.6. I've bagged £500 or so in the process. Our pro shop doesn't stock anything I would want to purchase though, which is a bit annoying but we always need shoes, gloves and balls so I'll probably stock up on them.

Started the year at 8.8 now at 9.2 played in every medal bar one this year just keep missing the buffer zone by one or two best round in a comp was 69 nett best round of the year 70 gross.
Not to disapointed as i have a hip problem which came to light this year. Also play in a society after a win and a place down to 7 although the handicap system is a lot different can find yourself getting docked up tp four shots after a win!!! so dont take my 7 seriously. Just incase anyone crys foul both comps where i got a reduction of my society handicap would not have merited a club reduction or i would have declared them.

So overall nothing special but quite consistant.

Handicap has gone up,I haven't played half as much as I would have liked both socially and competitively and my time to play is seemingly constricting every day. I am now finding myself having to schedule when I can fit a round of golf in (not been able to for a month due to workload!) so that I make sure I stay free at that time. I have been finding the odd hour for the practice ground but it just isn't enough in a whole week which is frustrating. I still have that desire to play though so it should be fine, and I have 2 rounds coming up at least during October which is better than the last month. I am hoping to get a decent amount of winter golf in also- to the extent of purchasing my latest winter essentials monday night: Wooly hat, mittens, rain gloves, galvin green skintight thermal top and leggings, an umbrella holder for my electric trolley and a new sweater. bring it on!

Started the year at 10.9, now at 9.6. My season end target of single figures still very much achievable. Won the club tankard back in May and all in all very happy with the year so far which, incidently, doesn't end until 4th November.

Also, played in the inaugural GM challenge in January at the Jubilee and at the Forum outing at the Glens. Looking forward to Craigielaw later this month. I've also added another 10 courses to my "have played" list, the most recent being Edzell Golf Club yesterday where I hit a respectable net 72 (+1)
My only down side was that I was regularly pumped by my mate in our regular death matches.

For those who live & breath club comps, then maybe the season is over or nearly over, but for those who have a bit of wanderlust in their FJ's then the season is just begining its the start of winter rates at many courses & many more in november & the chance to try pastures new at a reasonable price with your mates....

... The season is just starting.

I concur, I love winter golf maybe more than Summer golf. In winter you get cheaper rates, empty courses and beautiful crips mornings. In summer (this is my first as a golfer) you are slowed down my fair weather golfers, you get bit to hell by flies and midgey and the thought of sweating within a few holes with a hangover from hell is not ideal whereas in winter after the first hole and numerous cups of coffee from the flask a great delief.

If you are ending the season now I went from 20.2-15.4 this season but its only a 9 hole course with SSS65 so not that hard so who knows what my real hcp is.

Winter rates are great!

We play nine or ten events each year in our little League of Gentleman competition. Just mates playing for points in a formula 1 style league affair. Most are during the winter when we get the chance to play great courses like Dunbar and North Berwick for half the usual fee. No winter greens or tees. Lovely jubbly. Bring on the waterproofs.

yep often do the winter golf cheap rate thing too although we always make sure its links golf we stick to.
Make sure one of your formula 1 style rounds is at Goswick JF,it is is superb condition at the moment and no doubt will be right through the winter and as you point out no poor tees or greens or the dreaded mats!!

I may well suggest that to the lads for this winter, Dodger. As you know, I've played Goswick a couple of times now and I'm sure they'd love it.

Cheers for the heads up.

Well, didn't have a 'season' by the GM standards but I have only been playing 12 months(almost)

Considering I had to re-learn the whole game again in april(change of hands for those who don't remember) I am happy playing of an unofficial 18.

I have joined a club like I intended and I just need to get the cards in. Will be hard for me to play any comps as I work most week ends but I am looking forward to the winter golf as much as I did the summer.

Not really the end of the season for me as I'll be making sure I get out there in the winter.

Bloody disaster to put it bluntly!

Started the season at 25. Now 25.2.

To be fair, it's been my first real golf season. Only played in a few competitions and played extremely badly.
An extremely bad summer and shocking workload has prevented me from getting practise in.
Now we're at the back of the season I have eventually seen the light and opted for a set of weekly lessons to iron out the faults I have. I have to say things are going pretty well and I am optimistic that with some more lessons and practise, next season may be a lot brighter. )I sincerely hope so!)

Off the tee, fairway woods - good progress, would love more distance.
Iron play on the fairway - card wrecker but working on it.
Pitching - appalling
Chipping - no worries on that score.
Putting - definitely needs work.

only joined my club 6 months ago started at 15.2 ended 7.6,started up again around 2 years ago so not too bad with a complete swing change nearly a year in plenty more work to be done,if it was not for my blocks into a different postcode when it matters i could of done a little better

Well Andi, I think you are the most improved player this year with a 100% improvement. Some going - what's the secret?
