I would like to share an experience with you about drinking and driving as it is approaching the festive season. As you well know, some of us have been lucky not to have had brushes with the authorities on our way home from the various social sessions over the years.

A couple of nights ago, I was out for a few drinks with some friends and had a few too many beers and then topped it off with a nice single malt. It was beautiful. Knowing full well I was at least slightly over the limit, I did something I've never done before: I took a taxi home.

Sure enough I passed a police road block but because it was a taxi, they waved it past and I arrived home safely without incident, which was a real surprise as I have never driven a taxi before and am not sure where I got it.

The moral of this story is buy a taxi sign for your car roof!
It has the added benefit that you don't have to wear a seat belt!

Really hate people that do it, should just be a zero tolerance on it. Then there is never any doubt. Really don't see the point in just having one then soft drinks anyway.

Zero tolerance will never work.

Why's that? If someone takes a test and shows anything positive on the test then give them a ban. Why give people the excuse to even have one drink.

Because you can eat a steak and ale pie and have a trace of alcohol, you could have a sherry trifle and have a trace of alcohol, that's why.

Alright lower it to under half a unit or something. Think you may need quite a few pies to get over that ;)

So where's the problem; the clue is in the name, Steak and ALE pie, SHERRY trifle, if your driving you don't have them. Simple

Some places add red wine to Bolognese sauce, some add white wine to a Risotto and don't tell you. Do you really expect to lose your licence for eating a meal. Would you expect to lose your licence for using mouth wash?

By all means lower the drink driving limit if you like but to say a zero alcohol tolerance is the way forward is absolute nonsense nor is it something that I can ever see the courts accepting.

Good joke

I'm with Crawford as Zero tolerence is unworkable.
I watched my SIL put a bottle of Champagne into a mouse once as a 'laugh'.

Mind you it was funny watching my virtually teatotal wife get the giggles.
