Definitely. Ours would be much poorer without ours. This is a great point. It's where a decent pro adds value.

Don't play with the Englishman.
Personally, to those saying to speak to the sec etc, it's not something I would do. I wouldn't want to 'force' anyone to play golf with me.
Are there any 'new members' evenings or such like? Would be a good way to find some games. Whilst this is sort of forming your own 'clique' and I agree it's always great to play with different people, this might get you over the hurdle you face right now.
I wrote something about this the other week......clubs need to find better way to ingrate new members. SAOL offers a system where an existing member shows you around, plays with you in comps and introduces you to other members etc. I think this is a great idea.
Fingers crossed you're not out in a 2 ball at the Dundonald or Trump meets
Jeez! That had me checking the Dundonald thread. I'm not down to play there...
While it looks like really bad patter those guys scratching and joining a single below you it could just be the simple fact that they know this other guy and he didn't have his name on the sheet when they put theirs down so they moved to join him. It's only natural that people wants to play with their mates so I don't really buy into this cliquey thing. I play with my dad and his mate every week, while some see this as being cliquey I see it as the only chance I get to play with my dad. I pay my money the same as everyone else and I'm not having the club tell me who I can and can't play with.
You might be being a bit hasty just now tbh, give it till the season is underway when people are playing more regularly, give people at the club a chance to get to know you a bit more etc. A wee bit more thick skinned for the time being, I certainly wouldn't speak to the secretary, I wouldn't want people being forced to play with me.
How do your medals and competitions run? I join a golf club to meet new people, I can play with my mates anytime but Saturday morning I enjoy nothing more than standing on the first tee swapping cards and introducing myself to guys I've not played with before. I've made some great friends through this process and been invited to Ireland to golf through someone I played with in a competition when the club "told me who I was playing with".
Each to their own but I find your stance quite bizzar.
I thought the point was that the guy had put his name down on thesheet with other players and they moved themselves further down the sheet leaving him high and dry. If that is the case they were out of order.
It is and it isn't. BRS allows you to book into a competition. I've seen myself book in for a slot between 1030-1100 as all earlier times have been snaffled by people with quicker fingers than me. A couple of days later if I see a cancellation between 0800-0830 I'll grab it and move to another time slot.
I've scratched twice from competitions at short notice.
1st time because I was feeling crap, 2nd time work commitments.
In both instances I emailed the guy/s I was playing with to explain why.
Common courtesy I guesscant say fairer than that.
