Is it typical of The BRS booking system or do I smell? I've been at the new club just over two months now, and virtually every week someone has scratched from the group I'm in. On three occasions all my playing partners have scratched and the starter has juggled things around, with me waiting around for up to half an hour.

Team of four tomorrow, one has scratched. 3 ball next week, and both have scratched.

In over 40yrs of golf, and 12 clubs I've never known anything like it. To say I'm getting hissed off is a mild understatement. Another month of this and I'll write it off and move clubs.

Or is it just the ease of scratching under the BRS system?

Think it's the ease of the BRS - people will book as quickly as its open just to ensure they get a time without checking they can actually play - as it get closer they will then pull out when it's turns out they can't actually play that day.

Also some just like playing with their own mates and don't bother with newbies. It's shame as they don't give those guys a chance. I hope it's something that doesn't force you to move away

Both my clubs use BRS and it's not like that at all. That said, the links is quite strict about bookings and the club is quite penal for repeat drop outs.

Wonder if it's weather or season related? Are people much more lax in the low season? I'd give it more of a chance and ask the starter if it's usual behaviour?

i really dont like comps like these,i much prefer a drawn comp and if you scratch then you go up .1 three in a row you are banned from entering club comps ,no leeway given.
it would soon find out who wants to play golf or have a jolly with their mates in the guise of being in a comp.also stops a lot of ,,to not put too fine a point on it ,cheating.
back to op ,Brian ,i bet you have told them you support Boro.

You can't increase someone's HC just because they pull out of a comp ?!

And just because people want to play with mates doesn't automatically suggest cheating

It's a hobby for goodness sake

Sorry, can you repeat that...

Been welcomed on a few occasions with, "we usually play with..." Which makes you feel wanted.

It's not pleasant to have that attitude and make people feel unwelcome - did you have a welcome meeting and an introduction into some roll ups ?

i agree that takes things too far, but we are in our second year of the BRS and its bewildering the amount of folk that have booked a tee-time a week in advance and then dont turn up - i suspect its weather related given the winter we've just had, but its still galling.

We know of a guy at our place that has put in a tee-time 20 minutes in front of us in our usual sunday morning slot and hes been sighted about 4 times all winter - infuriating when others are looking for a tee-time

People that book and don't turn up should be subject to disciplinary procedures - they will at ours with a warning system in place

I think it's a combination of weather, attitudes and laziness. I'll see it till the end of April, and if it doesn't improve move on. Cracking course though...

As a newbiw to the club, speak to the secretary or whoever is in charge of the system. I wonder if there's a clique element at work and without being rude, they simply don't want to play with a newbie. Not a great way to help integrate new members. Is it both social and competition golf this is happening in?

It's you mate, no point moving Clubs, their members will avoid you as well. 😃

The two that have scratched from next weeks 3 ball have joined a single immediately below!

I suggest moving on, sir! Happened to me many years ago at a club I joined - I didn't hang around for long! Never had a similar problem at other cubs I've been a member of over the years, and just the opposite at my current one.
