Scottish Fitba'

I know nothing about Scottish football but an honest question, has the league ever been above pretty average?
In the 80s there were strong teams. Aberdeen win the cup winners Cup and the league a few times. Dundee United win the title got cheated in the European Cup semi final by Roma and got to a UEFA Cup final.
Hearts got beaten for the title on the last day on goal difference in 86.
The finances of football have changed to the extent that small clubs like Brighton, Bournemouth, Crystal Palace et al can spend tens of Millions on players.
Scotland has the highest attended top flight per population in Europe but unfortunately no TV revenue.

It is sad when you think back to see what it’s become.
Also, the attendance per population is miles higher than any other country, like incredibly higher, a stat that doesn’t get the praise it deserves.

In addition to what others have said Rangers knocked Leeds out of the European Cup, both were champions at the time.
Rangers were just beaten in the European cup in the last 8(or 4) by Marseille who won it only to be stripped of the title.
Hearts ran Bayern Munich close quite late on in one Euro trophy.
Celtic put in great performances against the likes of Man U on a few occasions.
With little money, compared to what much smaller teams in England get gifted by Sky, Rangers have reach 2 Euro finals in the last 20 years and Celtic were also in a final that they were unlucky to not win.
Rangers v Celtic matches are probably watched by more people on the tv in England and across the world than plenty of the lower premiership games.

Yeah, but is that not just because the population of Scotland is low? And not sure how many clubs in Scotland that stat includes, would it be lower than other countries with many professional sides?

I'd imagine if a few clubs in England had 300,000 seater stadiums, they could still fill them.

Do the maths. 🤣

Scotland are going to have a Public Holiday on 15 June to celebrate qualifying for the World Cup. It is the day after their opening match against Haiti, which kicks off at 2 in the morning. Probably wise to give everyone the day off as no-one was going in anyway :ROFLMAO:
