Scottish Fitba'

Dixie Deans passed away yesterday. A great old fashioned centre forward. The only man to score a hat trick in 2 finals, I was at both of them, great memories.
Strangely I thought he was of an earlier generation [than when I lived in Scotland up to teenage years]
I have no recollection of him playing for Celtic but he must have been around during the Lisbon Lions era.

Played for Celtic from 1971-76. 89 goals in 126 appearances. Scored hat tricks in the 72 cup final and the 74 league cup final, both against Hibs.

Despite all that, he is probably best known for missing in a penalty shootout in the semi-final of the European Cup.

Thanks, that explains it. I moved to the South of England in 1969 and there was not much coverage of Scots League fitba in those days

Watched a couple of tribute videos - some great memories there. And PLZ Soccer did a nice one with Alan Rough who had some interesting and some amusing stories and anecdotes about him.

Did he mention Deans putting 6 past him in one game? Think that might be a record as well.
He did…and he told that with 5mins to go Celtic got a corner Roughie said to Deans that he’d had a great game but he wasn’t sure how many he’d scored…the corner came in and Deans scored and said to Roughie..”that’ll be six big man” 🤣

Lots of other fond and funny memories from Roughie about Deans.

This could end up very embarrassing for Celtic. Roma don't even look like they're breaking sweat. 🙄
We are all over the place.. Can't string 2 passes together.. Look like we could lose a goal everytime they attack... I don't even think they are that good... We are just hopeless..
Be lucky to win at the weekend also at this rate..
Defo missing some big players but still..

that was a great watch, thanks for posting.

Cracking goal from Kingsley to put Hearts six points clear in the Premiership.
On a wild night of wind and rain on a plastic pitch. (y)
Looks like Hearts are signing Josh McPake from St Johnstone [sorry Hogan]
Was an absolute thunderbolt 👍

Saints fans are not overly surprised. We always knew that if we were still up top and McPake still scoring there was a good chance we could lose him in the Jan window, and maybe also Diabate. We’d accept the loss as we’d be top. That aside there is a hope that he might stay until end of the season and get StJ player of the year 🥰🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿😇

Seemingly he was a boy wonder at Rangers who was probably not as good as he thought he was.
Dropped down the leagues and has now worked his way back.
Sounds like a good investment.

I've already got serious concerns about the manager. Eight goals conceded in three games. If it carries on like this he might have a shorter spell in the job than Martin O'Neil had.
St Mirren well worth their victory today and congratulations to them but Celtic shouldn't be so easily beaten in a cup final.
