Score at the End of a Match

We play in some interclub knockout matches in various formats. There are basically 3 ways to determin the winning side:

1. Matches won - with a nominated pair as the tie brakers.
2. Matches won - with the away team winning if match scores are level.
3. Matches won - with the highest aggregate winning scores counting.

It's this last one that made me question what the final score is at the end of the match.

Player A is dormie 2 up and both players are on the green.

Player B is near the hole but player A holes his putt, Handshakes all round - is the score 2&1 or 3&1?

Same scenario but player B putts first and misses - as only a half is needed he concedes - again 3&1 or just 2&1?

Didn't matter until goal difference was introduced!

Assuming aggregate means the total of holes up for the team, I'd have thought that they should play out every hole up to and including to the 18th.

If the score matters then the players need to agree what it is on that green - it's that simple.

E.g. in your first example B needs to establish whether his putt is conceded before he picks it up!

Yes that is correct.

The aggregate is taken at the point of victory as several groups walk in to complete the round more quickly.

What about making a win worth 3 points, a tie worth 2 points (1 point to each) and a loss zero points? Makes winning the advantage it should be.
I wouldn't support making each match finish the round after the match was over - that's pointless and just prolongs things, imo.

When I referred to a "win", I meant winning the match, not individual holes.

Met this for the first time last year in the semi-finals of the Kent Vets Knockout. 3 pairs but halves don't count so we had 1 win and 2 halves after 18 holes....and ended up loosing the match!

Needless to say I'm not a fan 🤔

Agreed - unfortunately the organisers have teams of 8 and 10!

In relation to OP - see decision 2-3/2 - which says that the handshake represents the concession of each players next stroke. So in your first example player A concedes B's stroke for the half = match won 2&1. In second example, both next strokes are conceded meaning A wins the hole = match won 3&1

(Assuming they were both on the green in level (nett) strokes that is).

Edit: Ps - and provided one of the players hadn't said something specific such as "your hole"
