Ryder Cup 2014 Volunteers

Got my e mail as well didn't really expect to be chosen but i would love to know the selection criteria, say's over half the volunteers chosen are from abroad.

Well there you go.

I guessed most of the places either went to those that went to private school, who's parents spend £5k a year on golf fees and drive range rovers.

Sorry for the rant just really hacked off to say the least. I live 50 minutes from the course, would not expect accommodation. I am also a golfer, trained in first aid and a fire Marshall at every place I have worked.

I attended a meeting with the European Tour yesterday regarding the various new arrangements for the PGA at Wentworth later this month. One thing that they are doing new this year is to have free WiFi zones so folks can watch the TV coverage on their smartphones whilst still attending the event. I wonder if they will do this at Gleneagles next year for the Ryder Cup.

50 Blairgowrie members have been picked as volunteers for the Ryder Cup. With the Junior Ryder Cup being held over the Rosemount course, members were given the opportunity to assist at both.

I hear from a source I know that the tickets are £600 for the 3 days play plus 1 day practice........ Yikes !!! They will be next to impossible to get your hands on one unless you know someone who knows someone in a high place.

All aplications for the draw for tickets must be accompanied by a photograph of the applicant to prevent fraud and ticket transfers.

I'd imagine it was a complete random lottery and they dont care whether you play golf of not. I mean, why would they? That would just lead to accusations that the draw isnt fair, which wouldnt be right.

If it's been oversubscribed as much as was mentioned above it stands to reason the majority of people will not be successful. Thats ok, watch it on TV :-) You can always volunteer for another event locally to you, or was that not the point for many who applied? Didnt actually want to help, just want to be there and watch as much golf as possible....

Applied without luck. So settling for mates back garden. He lives local to Glen and we're putting a pavilion up as renting a massive telly for the week.
BBQ and beer fest !!

Noticed that. The draw is pretty soon (end of July) and they expect it to be oversubscribed by 500/1. There are a bare minimum of tickets for the public draw (not more than 3000 i am told) with the vast majority of the non public tickets being used for packages and by sponsors and key partners.(my company are partners and are guaranteed two tickets which we have to pay for. We have been told the price will be the public standard price of circa £600 per ticket for 4 days We are hoping that includes an element of corporate pampering, although we haven't been told the detail yet)

I applied and was selected as an "P&R Ticket Assistant" - which I think is the Park & Ride!!

Just goes to show that if you work hard, study hard (I've got a bachelors degree and a masters degree!) you can achieve your dream of becoming a "P&R Ticket Assistant" lol!!!

I don't mind paying the £75 to be honest. There is down time to experience the event, a party on the last night, and you'll get some decent gear to keep for the £75 anyway.

Slightly delayed, but I got an email last week stating that I had now been successful in my application as a volunteer.

Best thing is, it's as a Scoring Marshall...
