So I applied for the 2014 ryder cup.

Just got an email to say I had been unsuccessful. Apparently over 17,000 people applied for 1,800 positions. Gutted.

Looks like I will just need to find a small fortune to get a ticket to watch it.

Did anyone else on here apply and get a position?

I was put off by the £75 and the fact that you might not get to see any golf at all whilst manning a car park in the rain.

I know 3 who applied, all local, all passionate golfers willing to pay and volunteer, all 3 rejected

So, I'm going to say that attending the Ryder Cup as a spectator is massively over rated! I went to the Belfry on 02 and Celtic Manor last time. It's just such a nightmare getting in and out - the whole park and ride, and mile walk from the bus station and only four games on the course at a time being watched by thousands(apart from Sunday obviously) makes the whole thing rather trying. OK the atmosphere is electric, but if you want to see some great golf up close the 7am on Thursday at The Open is the way to do it. Of course if you're raking bunkers or carrying the scores the Ryder Cup must be amazing!

This (in bold) is the reason I've never gone to a Ryder Cup, I miss the atmosphere but I dont miss one single shot when watching in HD. On saying that, as the RC next year is at my old course I'll go for 1 of the days to 'feel' the atmosphere and see some of my 'heros'

I hear from a source I know that the tickets are £600 for the 3 days play plus 1 day practice........ Yikes !!! They will be next to impossible to get your hands on one unless you know someone who knows someone in a high place.

They better not be. That is astronomical. Especially in the current financial climate.

I better get pally with the guys at Standard Life then :)

I live 10 minutes away a first alder and still got rejected, I thought locals would have been better as they don't use local hotel rooms thus giving more room for visitors. Seems daft to me.

As you can tell I'm gutted.

I too just got email was also gutted to be put in reserve list but having read posts it would seem ok.Ryder Cup website says only small reserve list.By the way I have marshaled at 7Tour events s thought I would get position and 1 Childrens International Games golf
