Usually see more dogs than golfers on the course at RSG. Women have always been allowed to play there too.

I remember when a few lady members at Crowborough Beacon complained to the Secretary that they were sitting on the clubhouse balcony at 4 o'clock one afternoon enjoying tea and teacakes and were disgusted by the swearing coming from some male members on the 18th green.
New rule came into place.
Ladies were not allowed to take tea on the balcony until 6pm.

Seems remarkably like the similarly worded sign you stated you saw on St Andrews Clubhouse 20+ years ago that I have an email stating that it never existed?
Great to see RSG has opened it up though.
Still plenty of Male only - and Female only - clubs about though!
