Royal Portrush - Dunluce Links

Such a pleasure to play! Play it every year! So many great holes esp 5th but the 4th is a teaser with the oob right and well placed bunkers! Have always managed to avoid the 17th bunker but such a sight! The valley course is a cracker too!! Enjoy! One you'll never forget!

Played the links yesterday. It was my 1st experience on any links course and WOW, what an experience! The course didn't have a pretentious feel which I feared it might with the price. The highs for me were breaking 100, hitting 3 pars, being the only one in my group not to be in 'Big Nellie', only losing 3 balls, not getting rained on and definitely the highlight of the day walking away from Calamity corner with a par. Amazing experience with he 5th hole being one I wont forget. Would encourage anyone to give it a rattle!

Playing here tomorrow in an open at 10.10 :)

Hope I play better than I did at ballyliffin. The weather is to stay dry so happy days.

Going to try and get down early to have a nosey about.

Darren Clarke apparently opened the two new holes put in for the open yesterday so we are full steam ahead.

Have fun, I love that course

Cheers boys. I will enjoy it no matter how I play.

Only been down for the Irish open but it rained so hard most of the time I couldn't get a good look around the course.

Will try and take some photos.

Me and palindromicbob playing tomorrow as well Gary although we not out til 1.40.

New holes are open and I'm really looking forward to it, the original layout made for a cracking golf course but the new holes look fantastic and can't wait to play them.

My place (Ballyliffin) beat you up a bit did it? Which course were you on?

We were on the Glashedy. Apparently I played it a life time ago but I don't remember it so it felt like a completely new course to me.

Didn't score very well. Been struggling with my irons this year. Had a bad day with the driver that day so it was a bad mix. Lola enjoyed the layout all the same. only 30 euro for foyle members too which is sweet.

Glashedy can certainly make you feel really bad about your game if you not playing well. Absolute steal at €30 though.

Well hopefully you find your game for tomorrow at Portrush and enjoy it, might just bump into you somewhere out on the course.

Good luck and enjoy and don't forget to report back tomorrow evening

I've had my good golf for the season. I'm just going to enjoy the walk tomorrow.

Well that was a lot of fun. Glad to say portrush didn't me up as bad as ballyliffin. I had a decent front 9 but lost it a bit on the back. Links golf has the habit of magnifying any weaknesses in your game and making you pay.

My driving went to pot back 9 which meant playing 2nd shots from the cabbage if I could find it.

The new holes put in for the open were good. The par 5 in particular was tough. I was the only one to complete the hole and that was with a rubbish drive that found wee Nellie. No choice but to hit out side ways. 2 good 4hyrbids later I am in the greenside bunker which lead to a double.

Playing calamity was tough as old boots. Wind slightly into and hard off the right. 205 I think it was to the pin. Big carry to navigate. Gave my 5 wood everything I had and some. Sent it out right over the expansive dip and drew into the green. Came to rest a yard off the surface. Rolled my putt over the edge of the hole and a little to firm. Missed coming back. Calamity indeed.

Looking forward to playing it again. Will certainly play a few of the holes a little differently.

I could see no benefit in trying to hit out forwards. Good chance I wouldn't even have got it out that way. :o

Just home myself. Me and Smange managed a respectable 40 points in the 4BBB. With no 1 pointers or blanks so dove tailed well. If I hadn't had a few too many brain farts when putting would have been a bit better.

That's good going. Lets just say me and my nephew didn't dove tail in the slightest.

My favourite putt of the day was a long one from the back of the 5th green to the pin at the front. I had to break the putt up into nearly 3 bits. Judged the speed perfectly. I would have tipped my cap to the crowd had I been wearing one and there being anyone but my 4 ball in the vicinity.

Great day on what is a truly fantastic golf course, the two new holes are spectacular and as Gary say the par 5 is tough as old boots, or at least is into the wind, hopefully next time I play it may be downwind.

Some good golf and some decidedly average golf from myself but our Bob played well and as he alludes to, if he wasn't prone to brain farts on the greens we would have had at least another 4-5 points.

Just worked out my individual score. 37 points of my 18 handicap with a blank on the index 18. 36 off the 16 handicap I had with the 90% in place.
