Rory's twitter repost!

Townsend, Like him or not has every right to comment, and a guess that this sort of thing will become more regular.

Rory bites back, and hopefully goes and shoots a 63 tomorrow.

All part of being a big golfer who is happy to let fans know a bit more on twitter.

yes 'shut up' is a quality repost ;)

townsend has a right to comment as he's a commentator, McIlroy needs to be more professional to critique imo

"Shut up" is a great reply! :D
Rory's a a young lad and will rely.

I wonder what a Faldo would have done in the same situation. I think a Woosie may have lamped him :D

Most 'professionals' wouldn't stoop to respond to every channels commentators, and yes, he is a young lad, his management company need to manage more.

I texted Radio Five a few years ago and asked them to remove Jay Townsend from the airways, he was seriously annoying me.

He just seemed to disagree with everyone just for the sake of disagreeing.

People like Rory shouldn'd bite on the likes of twitter, or as I like to call it ****ter. If you read some of these guys post/RT's it really seems they have nothing better to do. If they (the stars) would turn their times to good causes that would be far better.
McIlroy and the likes wouldnt speak to joe public on the street, but on ****ter they think they can say what they want. Ban ****ter. NOW!!!!

Ban this forum as well...facebook. Keep us all in the dark wont you. Modern times, but I'm sure people like Rory do their bit for good causes, you just dont hear about it.

Thats not the impression I get of McIlroy. Have you watched the documentary that was on telly about his US Open win.

If they (the stars) would turn their times to good causes that would be far better.

He is far from arrogant - in fact he seemed like a very down to earth guy. The week before the US Open he was in Haiti acting as a UNIECF ambassador,

Humbling Haiti trip is making of Rory McIlroy

I think twitter is an excellent way of keeping up to date with the news, antics and opinions of today's golf stars.

Up the Twitter!! Or as clubchamp07 would say... Up the ******!!

Just been watching our coverage of the Irish with J Tutt, D Hutchings and J Townsend. In case you've not heard it, it went roughly like this.

On the 18th Townsend commentates on Horsey and Fischer taking sensible irons then question Rory's choice off tee as being aggressive as he's going to land in the narrowest part of fairway, which of course he does but runs on into bunker.

Discussion then ensues from first 2 commentators that it's refreshing to see the way he plays (Rory) and long may it continue he has potential to be one of the stars of the game
Townsend then comments that " he has good lie in the bunker but I don't know you'd hit a club that would go in the bunker. I have to question his play off the tee"
As soon as Rory hit his bunker shot, Townsend " And there you go that's why you don't hit it in the bunker , watch this "
" Wait. You guys talk about the way it's refreshing the way he plays. He plays silly, several time already today"

More discussion et al.

I get the impression Townsend was chuffed that Rory dumped it in the water as it proved him right by questioning his club selection form the tee.

To be honest anyone with a modicome of understanding this game could have commentated like Townsend on the 18th

Speaking as a journalist, everyone of us, Jay Townsend included, has the right to comment and criticise if we think appropriate.

But in the same vein, every player has the right to comment back and even query the credentials of the reporter to talk in the first place.

There was a similar situation a few years back when Tiger hit a crap shot into a green and Faldo explained why it was such a bad shot on multiple repeats. Tiger naturally threw his toys out of his pram at being shown up.

Faldo, Townsend and any other ex-pro can of course be criticised for being poacher turned gamekeeper but that is the name of the game in the commentary business.

Townsend cannot have it both ways. He cannot pass comment on players without being able to take it back.

As far as I am concerned, Rory is absolutely right to reply in the way he did but I'd still like to have seen Ian Woosnam land Jay one as someone suggested earlier in this thread.

the difference is Townsend commented on a professional decision and it was HIS Opinion, McIlroy made a personal attack saying, and I paraphrase "your just a washed up old pro who hasnt achieved anything"

Standards laddy standards!
