Is anyone else watching the Dubai World Championship right now? Rory McIlroy is playing some fantastic stuff. Driver, wedge on every hole, into the middle of the green. It brings about an interesting point. As Mark Roe said during the coverage of the Chevron World Challenge, is Rory the real world number 1?

I personally don't think so, the ranking points don't lie, even if some believe the system is flawed. Luke Donald has made 19 top tens this year.

Anyway, it is just a matter of time before McIlroy is the world number 1.

Luke has amassed over 500 world ranking points in 11 months, which is the equivalent of winning FIVE majors in one season. Pretty sure he's the real World Number 1. The results and consistency he's produced of late is no easy feat.

Rory will get there, but Luke is the man right now.

No he definitely isn't - yet! Otherwise he wouldn't moan that his game doesn't suit horrendous conditions on a links course

the problem here is it's all matter of opinion.what the rankings tell us over a period of time and with consistency is,luke is world number 1 and rightly so.....but what you can say is at this moment in time with the quality of golf that rory is playing he is better than anyone else.and i'm sure that if he continued to do what he's doing then it's only a matter of time.

i liked how mark roe mentioned about the slating he has been receiving over the comments he made during the broadcast of the chevron last week and i think he did well with his explanation......very similar to the way luke donald explained what he was meaning with the comment regarding rory and his natural talent.

yes I know that, hence my post asking "don't they play together for 36 holes?" like other tournaments

this is the usual format for a field of x amount but because this is the race to dubai only 60 are playing so i think there will be no cut and after day 1 it's a seeding format with the leaders going out last etc.exactly the same way last week was worked at the chevron with the reduced field and at the nedbank tournament aswell.

i bet there's a nice wee earner for last place(that's if there isn't a cut)....it's also why you see them all out in 2 balls as oppose to the usual 3 balls on day 1 and 2.

Luke is the current world number 1 as he is the most in form player in the world right now, without question.

If you forget about form and just say who is the best golfer in the world then the answer is without doubt Tiger Woods.

Rory definitely has something a bit special about him but he is not the best golfer in the world right now in either current form or overall. He definitely could be one day, even as soon as next season, but only time will tell.
