Rory is the new Andy Murray

I don't find it uprising from a guy who claimed to be a proud Brit (ok, UK citizen) but who doesn't know who he would represent if having a choice between GB and ROI.

It's such a non-story I can't even be bothered to respond to this thread!

Wow, I see Tiger bashing is still live and well. i must admit I didn't see it appearing on this thread!!

Tiger was just an example and nothing bashing him in particular about the statement I made. Many top sportsmen are as boring as anything to listen to - tennis in particular. They have been drilled so well to say what their sponsors want to hear, be careful not to upset anyone etc. that there's really not much worth in listening to press conferences anymore.

It's just a series of sound bites nowadays. Otherwise they run the risk of upsetting someone, losing a sponsor and being castigated in the press. It's safer to be dull.

JP5, I realise that and I agree with the point you made. My response was to 3565 specifically

Why should he support England? He supported NI in football and rugby and England are a traditional foe of both. You also don't know if he was speaking TFUC or not.

A non story.

Agreed, to be fair I couldn't care less about the other home nations and their events. If they have a chance if qualifying for a tournament with a game to go (rarely) I'd cheer them on coz the britsnare great supporters at events. That said, I generally see more of a rivalry between English and scots/welsh. Tend to ignore the little Irish lot as insignificant (queue abuse).

Tbh when it comes to football I don't give a **** about England - bunch of overhyped arses managed by a total bumbling plonker ( that's a lot nicer than what I really think of the man )

Always have a good giggle when England lose

Oh so JP5 polite comment about (woods) being boring in interviews and being PC, you agree with but my saying boring drivel is bashing him?????

Another classic misquote.

Look at the way it is written, that was cleary something said with a smile. "anyone but England, isn't it?".

Exactly the same as the Andy Murray thing. It's disappointing how rubbish journalists are these days.

Yup, it was said as a humorous reply. Complete non story. Why the hell were they asking a golfer his views on cricket anyway? apart from wasted column inches?

It would have be a non-story if he'd deflected the question and given a diplomatic answer.
As it is, tongue-in-cheek or not, he's given the Journos exactly what they wanted.

.

Id like to see the interview and id say CH is pretty close to the mark , id say it was in jest or there was more to the comment , but why would the jurnos want to print the truth ? no fun in that

Guess he representing the Paddys in the olympics now as im sure England are part of the GB&NI brigade ..:D

JP5 used Woods to make his point about Sports Stars having watch what they say for fear of saying something out of line and therefore become quite boring and seemingly lacking personality. The reference to Tiger was an example, he could have used any other golfer. The context between his reference and yours, which was clearly a comment of someone who doesn't like Tiger, couldn't have been more different.
