Rory is the new Andy Murray

that's disapointing coming from an elite sportsman.

Wonder how he would feel if major sports stars all came out saying they hope anyone wins/beats Mcilroy in any tournament as long as its not him.

Why should he support England? He supported NI in football and rugby and England are a traditional foe of both. You also don't know if he was speaking TFUC or not.

A non story.

What the hell is wrong with him? He really should learn to keep his thoughts to himself!

I do not know mate he baffles me at times. I have never been keen on him from the moment he first came onto the scene, thought he was a nasty tempered little big head and having met him a few times can confirm my initial impressions. A perfect example of a spoilt brat really but one that appears to have a brain the size of a Pea

Another classic misquote.

Look at the way it is written, that was cleary something said with a smile. "anyone but England, isn't it?".

Exactly the same as the Andy Murray thing. It's disappointing how rubbish journalists are these days.

you've missed the point, no-one expects him to support England!

I agree with this. He was clearly being far too wry and subtle for the thicko journalist he responded to

I like him even more!

Why would he want a country that is not his to win? He has a choice of two and he's went for the Aussies, where's the issue with that?

That's got to be the quickest contradiction ever hasn't it?

He's either not arsed or he wants a country not of his own to win whether that be Australia or England.

Been a strange one with Rory. As he's got older he seems to have become more immature.

He doesn't even get angry, just sulks, puffs and pants and looks at his caddy as though he has been cheated out of a good shot.

I hope he bucks up, he's too good not to.

He's also almost certainly speaking to an Aussie journalist - just telling his audience what they want to hear. I can't see what the problem is.

I agree, with the "isn't it?" at then end, it seemed to me like he was referring to the Murray thing rather than his own response. However, who cares if he doesn't want England to win, he's not English (Plus it's only cricket ;))

Another big fat non-story in my view.

Yawn, bit of a non-story really isn't it? Sure the media are spinning something out of nothing like usual. People complaim that top sports star have become so PR-centric that we never really see their true side (Woods being a prime example) - McIlroy shows a glimmer of personality and people jump on him for it.

People are going to jump on you when the 'glimmer of personality' you're showing, appears to be the personality of a bit of a helmet.

Edit - I'll just qualify that comment by saying I don't view him as a helmet because he doesn't want England to win the Ashes..... more so for aspects of his behaviour in the past.

Rather listen to Rory routing against England interviews then the boring drivel that comes out of Woods's gob!!!!!

I agree it's really a non story - his supposed response is at odds with his attitude to the Olympics.

If he was so anti-English that he'd want them to lose the Ashes the fact that he'd be at least partly representing them in Team GB would make his decision easy.
