Ronnie O'sullivan has come out in an interview and confirmed he is retiring after the WC.

Ronnie O'Sullivan says this year's World Championship could be his last major event, stating he only returned to the sport for "a bit of money".The defending champion, 37, beat Stuart Bingham 13-4 on Wednesday to move into the semi-finals of the tournament.
O'Sullivan pulled out of the 2012-13 season last November because of "personal issues" before ending his snooker sabbatical in February.
"I've realised I don't miss snooker but I needed a bit of money," he said.
"I'll be honest, I still owe the school money for my children's school fees, I haven't paid the last two or three terms.

"I didn't know what was going to happen here but I've made a little bit of money now so I can go and pay the school fees now for the next two years.
"But really I don't think snooker is for me. This could be my last proper major event."
O'Sullivan's reward for defeating Bingham is an enticing last four encounter with Judd Trump, who overcame Shaun Murphy 13-12 in a thrilling quarter-final.
Despite confirming he has fallen out of love with the game, O'Sullivan promised he will give his all against Trump.
He added: "I'm a competitor and I hate losing. I will fight to the death. They'll have to scrape me off the table.
"I've got five days left potentially, it could possibly be three, and if I can't get through that then something's seriously wrong.
"The light at the end of the tunnel is it doesn't have to go on any longer."
Even if he successfully defends his World Championship title, O'Sullivan said he will not be returning to the Crucible next year.
"I've no intention to come back," said O'Sullivan, who is contracted to play in 10 more events, although those could include Legends tour events, and low-profile tournaments.
"If I find something else to do you definitely won't see me.
"I've kept my cards close to my chest but there's no reason to keep them close now.
"This is my last farewell, it's my swansong. I'm happy; I'm done.
"I'll fulfil my contract and keep my sponsor happy. It's just 10 events and I'll see them out."

All I can add is thank you Ronnie for some great memories and good luck in life.

Could/Should be the best ever with the amount of natural talent he possesses!

"But really I don't think snooker is for me"

It must be strange to have a "God-given" talent for something that could make you millions but that you don't particularly enjoy!

How many times has he said he is quitting. He plays the media something cruel and they just lap it up. I will be very surprised if we never see him playing snooker again. As for the money situation what a load of rubbish, there is no way he is short of money after all he bought a house in the Manor Road area in Chigwell for £1.5 million last year with no mortgage so I doubt he is struggling. I am a big fan of his ability though definitely the best ever for me 4 world titles which is looking like being 5 if he carries on and with all the troubles he has had over the years with his Dad being banged up and his other demons.

he 'retired' in February and is back in April

he'll 'retire' again after these 11 events then come back again............

He's done very well financially for a waster, it's about time he grew up, had a day off and acted like the role model he should be whether he likes it or not.

Whilst i admire his skill and ability, i can't help but wish all the media/reporters would just leave him be in his own self pity.

If he said 'im retiring' and the media went 'great, get on with your life, shut the door on the way out...', i am sure he would soon come back as he loves revelling in the media's attention

Also - Did any see the video of the interview on the BBC website...spit your chewing gum out whilst talking..rude boy!! ha

Flawed genius. If he is short of cash he must have had a heck of a good time to get through the amount of money he must have owned. I just wish Jimmy had won just one world title. Far more the peoples favourite than Ronnie ever will be

Man is tedious and thinks he's bigger than the game.
Let him do a 8-5 in an office for £25k a year and see how quickly he's appreciates snooker and its trappings.

Sandwich short of a picnic in my opinion.

Once he runs out of money again he'll come crawling back again, and again and again. Says he's only playing this year to pay his kids school fees. Total waster considering the money he's earned throughout his career!

Always been a huge fan of Ronnie's (as a snooker player couldn't give a wotsit about his personal life) but after that interview I'm really hoping Judd gives him a walloping!

He is not a genius of any type Homer, he is a guy from a dodgey background/family who misspent his youth and got very rich from it, talented whacker of a ball round a baize table, yes, genius? definitely not.

The guys background is not his fault though is it, he cant help what his parents were into. Yes it has been well documented his Dad did a life stretch for murder and was known as being the king of soho for all the sex and porn shops he owned and his mother also being sent to prison for tax evasion so it is no shock that his childhood was mixed up. As far as snooker goes he is a genius at the game, probably the best I have ever seen, more so than Alex Higgins and Jimmy White. But as has been said he is a troubled individual.
