Roll Back Discussion

Is there any source for the information about the average distance loss?
Average drives for the Average golfer is significantly over 200 yds from R&A sources as this is the average it includes mishits etc.
Many keen golfers on this forum are better than average, many will use decent balls when appropriate.

I hope the R&A provide better information than this which appears somewhat patronising.
Yes most decent golfers I know use good balls .

i use a brand new ball Bridgestone RXS for every comp .
if it survives 18 holes it’s in the bag for social golf.

Have you even thought about this for a second before claiming it'll make no difference? 10% off 220 yards is 198 yards. That's already two clubs longer into the green - then factor in that your approach clubs are 10% shorter as well, you're now hitting 3 clubs longer into the green than before. How the hell is that making no difference?? Having to hit a green with 4 iron/hybrid/7 wood instead of a 7 iron is a totally different ball game.
A par 3 is still a par 3, a par 4 still a par 4 and a par 5 likewise.

The full announcement from R&A is expected tomorrow...we won't actually know full figures, I expect, until an actual ball is produced that meets the standards
The ball already "exists" in one form or another.

Manufacturers are not daft....they would have seen this coming several years ago and you can bet your last pound that their R&D boffins have been at work for a while now researching methods of producing balls that travel less distance the harder you hit it (badly worded but I'm guessing folks know what i mean!!)

They'll have already looked at several different scenarios for "how" the restriction would be applied by the ruling bodies and there will be several balls in development exploring different lines of experimentation.

....and if the above proves to be utterly untrue, then the ball manufacturers will have literally "dropped the ball".

The ball improvement rule change will have less effect on ones distance than choice from the existing balls available.

So I'm already playing ancient clubs and now you tell me my ball of choice is another 13 yards down on the best!

Luckily, it's not all about the score! ;)
If you play with ancient golf clubs, then you should get allowance to use old golf balls that go further than the modern garbage ones :)

I don’t assume anything, I am just saying that this chart may well have no relevance to average golfers.
It is for 100mph driver. Covering the span, the charts for 85mph and 115 mph are essentially the same message. Perfectly relevant to average golfers.
