Hi,

Played Richmond Park today, thought it was excellent value for money! Played the princes course, although not the most difficult course I thought it was in good condition and had some challenging holes! Is the other course nicer can anyone tell me?

can anyone recommend any other courses around South London that have reasonable green fees? By reasonable I mean under 35 for a Saturday or Sunday? Also would be handy if it was accessible from train stations but not essential!

thanks

Wimbledon common will cost you £25 on Saturdays and mitcham won't be too far off that either. Mitcham is actually at the train station too so you have no travel, just 32 steps to the pro shop!

Does WCGC allow visitors at weekends now? Always use to be play with members only? Mitcham GC was the same although I think that may have changed.

Yea we accept green fees on Saturday afternoons. We have occasionally let them come on a Sunday morning too but not often. Mitcham do on Saturdays and Sundays.

It's a Tram station isn't it? 10 mins from Wimbledon.

Never actually paced the Distance, but it's certainly not far - right at the gate!

Mitcham would be my recommendation.

My favourite in South London is Shooters Hill, don't think i pay much but that's as members guest. Ealing isn't South, but must be played greens are amazing and an interesting course. paid £27 for Ealing with county card last time.

There a a number of golf courses next to Tram Stops on the Branch that goes up Shirley Hill, down past the Addingtons and then back up the hill to the end of the line - course for every range of budgets :)

you could play Hersham - the course is less than a 5 minute walk from the station - trains run through Clapham Junction towards Woking / Basingstoke.

Mitcham - you can get a train via Clapham Junction or the tram from Wimbledon. The course is 2 minutes walk from the station.

Richmond Park - both courses are fine and enjoyable. You played the shorter of the two. I would recommend a return visit to play the other.

I'll be hopefully looking to join a course in this area next year, Richmond Park does look like a very good option, especially with 36 holes!!

What were the practice facilities like?

Any suggestions on other courses I should look at to join? (preferably with discounted rates for 26 year olds!)

They were pretty poor when I last played there but I understand they have invested in a new club house and a new driving range.

I may be wrong but I think you might struggle to get discounted rates specifically for 26 year olds.
I would recommend you get out and play a number of the courses before you join one. There are lots of options available in the surrounding areas.

Totally biased but I make no apologies but Wimbledon Common is a friendly club, decent test despite the short yardage and reasonably priced. Not the greatest practice facilities though. I found Richmond Park gets very busy especially at weekends and later afternoons.

But be warned if you want one of the early green fees at weekend you need to be there about 6am, miss and it and there is no grey area until after lunch,
