Since I got my 1st Driver about 4yrs ago, Ive always been 'erratic' to say the least with the Big Dog.
Sure I can hang it out there when it goes well, but so often it lands me in trouble.
Even the Titleist 905R i picked up on Fleabay is the same, mahoosive distance but sometimes mahoosive trouble.

So, because my trusty old WarBird 4Wood is soooo reliable and long, and remembering I still had an old cally WarBird 'Deuce' 2 Wood in the garage, I decided to get it re-shafted from the original Graphite shaft to a Steel one exactly the same as the 4 Wood, with the hopes that it would prove as reliable. (True Temper put me onto a Club Maker who happened to have one in his garage )

Well tonight was its 1st use, and what a result, it was simply fantastic.

We were joined by a 5H/C'er, who hits the ball miles, but even his 909D2 was outdriven on 3 occasions by my trusty old 'Deuce'

Highlight was our 469yd Par4 16th, which I hit with the Deuce & a 7iron to 8', which I simply have NEVER done before.

Now while I only did the exercise of re-shafting to hopefully get better consistency and find the short stuff more often, this looks to have been a resounding success, and quite possibly the best £40 I have spent in my bag.

So, to all of you that crave the latest Drivers, pahhh.........look up an old WarBird, they are simply a stunningly powerful Club. Awesome.

Glad it's worked out for you Chris.

Are you sure you won't be tempted when the next super straight extra distance driver is released? :p :p

glad it worked out chris, i remember the other thread when you was in doubt. My taylormade supersteel 3 wood is the same, its just not as good on tighter lies as the newer burner, but im sure it longer!

You now have me thinkging as in the garage i still have an original taylor made burner with the 2 tone flex twist shaft in 12*, can see that getting to the range this week. :D

Unfortunately you'll never get the manufacturers to see sense and offer the new woods in steel shaft form. Given the choice bar the driver I wouldn't have a graphite shafted stick in my bag. For controllabilty and more than adequate distance steel is the winner in my book.

The next warbid 3 and 5 woods I see pop up with stiff steels in them shall be snapped up quicker than you can say "graphite sucks"!

Tell me about it. I had a warbird 3 wood and it was brilliant.
I broke it on a rock-hard fairway one day, drove down to Callaway (Chessington) and got a steelhead (1) for free as a replacement. Never the same again.
I remember the "deuce".....and also the "strong 3"....both great clubs.

Like them but not from anybody with spelling that a 5 year would be embarrassed by! I might even buy them with regular shafts and just have them reshafted by my pro.

Still struggling for consistency with the driver and this has been on my ideas list for a while. At the moment my 3 wood is flying miles - hit one 300 of the deck yesterday - and its 17 degrees loft! Might look out for the 13 degree version.....
