Klaxon goes at 11am on the course this morning - everyone stops for two minutes to pay their respects. Well except the guy in the car park coming off the 18th who was banging his shoes clean for the last 30 seconds.

Absolutely and have quite a few members who have been stationed there and now live locally having left the RAF.
I used to be a member at Ramsey GC in Cambs. Located near RAF Wyton and similar to Shifnal, there was a strong link with the Station, helped I’m sure, by the waiving of the joining fee for serving personnel.
My present club has a strong retired police contingent - my mantra has been to assume all members are ex police until they can prove otherwise 😀.

A very good turnout for the parade yesterday, after the parade we had a few and then went over to the other village in our branch. They too had there best ever parade. We went over to see the President. He is 88 and served in Korea. He had a fall last Saturday and was on the floor all night. The lads kicked his back door in to get to him. He ended up in hospital for a couple of days. He had a bit of Pneumonia and they think he has had a mini stroke. He came home because he told them he has a daily helper. He don’t, but he wanted to go home. He told me yesterday he is thinking about standing down as President as he is now feeling old for the first time. I told him it won’t be accepted. He has to much respect to stand down. It is purely a ceremonial position. With no work involved. Bless him.

Even when not in church on Remembrance Sunday we’d usually have the Cenotaph commemoration on TV and stand in silence at 11am. But that I think was because growing up my family were always in church on Sunday and when a scout I was always on parade on Remembrance Sunday - proudly (though sometimes a little chaotically 🙄) marching from the Scout Hall to church for the service.

I was never prouder than when I had been chosen to carry one of our flags. I was sharing this with our minister on Sunday…the pride I felt as a 13, 14 or 15 yr old, having led the scout troop to church I would be standing at the front of church, with a fellow flag-bearer facing the packed congregation, and as 11am approached we turned to face each other and then slowly lowered our flags as the congregation sung ‘Oh God our help in ages past’ stopping singing and with our flags lowered to the ground before the last verse and pausing for the silence. Then when 2mins had passed the organ played, and congregation sang the final verse as we raised our flags to the vertical and turned to face the congregation for the rest of the service.

At the end of the service we’d march out of church and then gather with the troop, cubs, guides and brownies before we marched on parade from church in front of the gathered congregation now itself gathered outside - among which of course it being around 1970 were very many veterans of both wars.

I still find the recollection as I type incredibly moving.

Not sure what those not at a formal ‘event’ on Remembrance Sunday did if Sunday wasn’t the 11th.

Wish I played more golf when I was in the RAF 😂

Every station had links with a local course and some sort of membership

My current club had links to Stanbridge , there was a membership and also a competition played -it stopped when the camp was reduced in manpower

We have recently restarted it as the scratch OOM

It is good to see when clubs have Remembrance Flags on holes - think we have them on all par 3’s plus another 4 holes , it took a while to ensure people didn’t put them on the ground

We have remembrance flags on 1 and 10

I think it's such a small thing that makes a really good impression for the members

Just watched the live stream from our Remembrance Service at work. Started with some employees sharing memories of their families wartime service and then the wreath laying. Great effort by the media team.
