I think many overlook the fact that not all networks work well everywhere, so to say something is expensive and you can get cheaper elsewhere might not give the signal and coverage that person wants where they live or operate.
For example, my work number is running sim only on EE, unlimited everything. I was on EE originally, but then swapped to 3 Mobile as they were quite a bit cheaper. However the coverage was rubbish and any time I went under a tree the signal quality dropped dramatically, so I moved back to EE as coverage is more important than saving a few pounds.
There are also quite a few (mainly new) residential buildings being built that the developers do a deal with a network provider that blocks all over networks from coverage.

I found this when switching from 02 to ID.
02 is expensive imo,especially when you’re paying for a 3 yr contract.
But their coverage was definitely better than ID.

My mobile is the iPhone 12. I got that when they came out and gave the iPhone 8 to Missis T

Only last week I was looking to upgrade to a 14 and bottom line I was shocked to see how much they still want for that model.
I am going to stick with the 12 for a few more years.

Ah I have moved from 6s to a 11 so I suppose on that basis I should go 16 and then change at 21,26,31,36 … then get chipped or just rely on my son to answer it

My current phone is a 6s and I have no reason to change. Usually get hand-me-downs from my wife but I'm not in favour of the larger formats.

I usually buy my phones outright and use them for as long as possible.
I am currently using an iPhone 11, it’s starting to show its age or shall we say the apps are starting to stress it.

But I can’t see a massive difference in the 14,15 or 16 … and the cost is very similar.. usually it’s an easy decision but I am struggling.. any suggestion?

I could have written this myself as I’ve just upgraded from the 11pro to 15plus. Other than the camera in the 15pro max, there was next to no difference. As someone who isn’t a massive insta poster the camera seemed pointless given the standard cam on the 15 was already better than the 11pro.

Like you I opted to buy, the difference in getting via an EE upgrade (3 year contracts) verses staying sim only and buying the phone out will pay most of next years subs.

I’m still running a Samsung Note 9. When it’s replaced , it will be probably the latest Samsung Galaxy large phone again.
I don’t want an Apple phone, and only buy a sim free version as I’m sim only contracted.

Are you getting all the IOS updates for the 6s? If not, you could be leaving yourself open to security issues as the updates may not be compatible with the older phone.

PS

I am not too technical. I have a 13 Pro and it has Maximum Capacity 87%. I am not a huge user. I expect this is OK for now. Any comments by you or anybody else would be appreciated
I've still got an iPhone X and battery health is at 76%. To be honest since I don't use many apps on my phone other than email, reddit and duckduckgo for browsing I'm not noticing the poor battery health at all.

£16 is pretty steep for Sim only. I get 30gb of data for £8 with O2, no doubt there are other even better deals out there, so might be worth having a look.
Same deal for me but since I've also got Virgin for my internet I get double the data. Think I get 64GB for £8, got both me and the missus on it. The kids are £16 a month unlimited with 3.

Whilst this is true. Fragger is on Tesco (which uses o2) and he could get a cheaper deal with more data from O2 themselves

17.7 is the latest iOS (other than iOS18).

15.8.3 is likely where yours stopped accepting the updates.
But this is the contentious point when I do tyres for OEMs we sign a contract with the supplier that they will support the vehicle 10years after the last one comes off the line.
So why can’t apple support products like that ? I don’t believe the security is compromised by the processor speed , that has never been the hand brake it’s more the RAM or accessing the memory etc .. I think it’s just designed redundancy and that’s surely an environmental crime

iOS 15 probably is about 10 years of support.

But is that 10 years of release date .. should be last off the shelf .. if that makes sense
Think iPhone 6 was 2014 and iOS 15 last update was early 2023 so 9ish years.

eTechnology moves a bit faster than tyres though. Not sure 9 years of continued support counts as nefarious redundancy though. Companies would make no money if their products never hit obsolescence.

I went from Xs to 16 this time around.

You want 15 at least because that moves you away from lightning and that way it is 1 cable for everything going forward, and by the time you pay for 15 the 16 is just a further £100 that doesn’t make much difference at that point.

Also went with O2 now. As a Virgin Media customer you get a lot of benefits to join O2. I pay £3 more a month now but quadrupled the internet speed, got Sky Cinema and Sky Sports.

I am a classic Luddite and technophobe.

I was perfectly happy with 1990s flip phones.
I thought they were great.

I use my mobile to call the auto club if I get a puncture
or to order pizza or Chinese take out on my way home.
Period.

I'm stuck with a "smart phone" now,
but I've never accessed the internet on it,
I've never taken a photo with it,
and I've never sent a text message.

As for the "specialty aps," other than figuring out the alarm clock, I haven't got a clue.
Further, I don't feel the least bad about it.

Tyres are not something you consider as high technology definitely understand that.. it’s only when you work in the industry and suddenly all these strange guys and gals start contacting you about changing aspects or influencing elements of the car .. strangest one was to fix the rear tyre on f type to help the telephone system.
But we must move away from obsolescence being so quick. It’s an industry that is hyper dynamic but it feels out of control…
