Now i really jelous bad enough missing Castle Stuart due to work but Nairn as well aaaaaahhhhhh.

The first were cracking haha, the third was good spent a while this afternoon on YouTube watch some of the Links ,Renton Laidlaws commentary is legendary.

Well John you brough a wee tear to the eye as I wandered down memory lane to my early golfing days.
Bob McIntosh, pro at the Dunbar, taking the fees out on the course and giving a lesson at the same time. Emerging from the tall whin at the back of the 'Long Peter' with a 'tut-tut laddie' as he then proceeded to show how a bunker shot should be played.
Then I wandered along to the 'West' as Nairn GC is know locally and signed up for the next 43 years. 'A little bit of Heaven' is how it was described by one member and I could not find a more apt phrase.
The small snippet of the course is so full of memories for me, the sand play from the beach at the 6th, the fear of touching a 10 foot putt down wind as it could end up 20 feet past, such is the speed of the greens.
The starters hut at the first is the the old pro's shop when Gregor MacIntosh ruled and I tried to tiptoe off the first without being hollored at for lifting my head, swaying into the shot etc. Relief as I address my second shot way down the fairway only for this foghorn voice to again attack me, 'Head down boy!'
Peter Aliss was watching the hoards of spectators at the Ryder Cup a few years ago, as all the marshalls tried to keep the crowd in control he remarked' It is like only yesterday that Gregor MacIntosh kept them all in check with only the aid of his umbrella' and I thought 'Yes Peter, but his voice would have kept everyone in check without his brolly!'

My pals from Nairn speak highly, and very fondly, of Gregor. He must have been some man. By the time I moved to Nairn when I was 13 all of my classmates who played at the West were single figure golfers as a result of his teachings at Nairn. To this day (we're all in our 40's now) their swings are a result of his legacy. Glad you enjoyed.
