Did Tiger do it again.....?

Tiger may be a lot of things but he isn't stupid. Does anyone honestly believe after the masters he would deliberately take an obviously wrong drop knowing the whole world would be looking to point the finger?

The video in the OP proves nothing. If Wittenberg who had the behind the shot view & Howard clark who was in the fairway think it was OK then until someone shows a decent view from behind the ball we're just gonna have to accept it.

What a treat it was to watch Tiger crush the golf course and all the people playing on it, I really enjoyed it!
Crush? Forgive me if I'm wrong and I don't mean to be contradictory, but crush implies dominance. However, just 3 strokes separated the top 7 players after 72 holes and 275+ strokes.

I thought it was a considered, hard fought and deserved win, which made great viewing. Same end result, eh? :)

A few of us had a look at this last night and one of my mates made a very valid point.
So, empty your mind for one moment. Look at the shot from behind Tiger, around 1.30 into the tape, and then look at the tee further forward. I agree tiger hit a hook pull.
Then, when you see the overhead shot, about 2.17 you can clearly see the line of the shot, right to left, as it crosses the forward tee.
Then go back to the tee shot again..... you can clearly see the balls line of flight between Tiger and the tee in front as he’s standing parallel to it. It gives you a good idea of the direction, considering the ball would be fairly low at that point of the flight.
If you then stop the tape 2.19 2.20 and 2.21 you can clearly see the ball is fairly close to the higher trees to the right of the frame, Tigers left.
I know the perspective is different with the ever head angle with the camera being left of centre, but my point is where the ball went in.......approximately the middle of the water channel.
The place where he dropped wasn’t that far away from where the ball splashed in..........that had to be some hook and I would need to see his ball to start way right of the tee in front of Tiger.
I know they agreed on the drop that’s fine, but Tiger didnt see where it crossed in proportion to where he dropped it because he turned away.
Finally, Tiger knows he got away with that. If you look just after he hits the ball he looks down to get the line then turns away......long before the ball splashes in. His ball flight time was about 8 seconds or so. He doesn’t even look after about 3 seconds. He knew the line okay and I say he’s a cheat.

Well said and I agree with you that given the evidence he dropped in the wrong spot, cheat is a strong word but what else could you call it ?

The guy has no respect for his fellow competitors, he gained an advantaged of over 200 yards and Saltman got banned from the European Tour for gaining a few mm's advantage with his marker. Where is the justice..........

Sorry Tommo, but it doesn't matter how many times you stop and rewind that video, there is no way that camera angle gives you enough perspective to tell the flight of the ball, absolutely no way.

Dont be sorry.............you have the right to say so. As I said, I've no real issue with the ball flight...........the real issue is where he drops it in connection with where the ball lands in the water.

One last thing....forget about the camera angle...........the ball doesnt take the much of a turn, and that we do see because of the height of the camera. Only my opinion.

Ye, I think he played the course by the numbers (for the most part) and stayed in control when others did not. Crush may be strong but it was a strong performance. I did really enjoy watching it.

Did anyone see the PGA coverage last night of the HP Byron? They talked at large about this subject and through some technology at it. Sky showed where they think the ball flew and where it would have to have flown to make that the drop point. Everyone involved in the discussion said that they were sure the drop point was not correct but that it was within a margin and that it was where the people on the ground pointed Tiger too. A resounding no fowl was the call from the whole team in the Sky studio.

Disclaimer, not my views, just interested if anyone say the inquest?

Are people still relying on the video as conclusive evidence? Suppose armchair analyst's has the best view than people actually on the course.

Taken from Bob Harig's article:
''Perhaps most telling was Golf Channel's paraphrased discussion Tuesday with Rolfing, the NBC on-course reporter. He said he heard Woods ask Wittenberg if he should drop back as they were walking off the tee. Wittenberg said no, the drop should occur ahead near the hazard stake.''

Bottom line is, Tiger played within the rules. For a forum that strictly adheres to the rules of golf, I'm surprised this time its been ignored by some.

The REAL CRIME here is Joe LaCava taking home $170k for a weeks work. :sbox:
