Right troops, just a couple of pointers if you’re heading to Muirfield for the open over the coming days. The message I’m getting here is.........if you try to go other than the signed route you will be in trouble.

They have routes for pass holders, public, park and ride and such like. Don try “ I know a sneaky way to Gullane” because the police are going to be blocking off some roads in and around the area. Also, if you don’t have the right pass or whatever, they will send you back the other way until you find the correct route.

Also, don't think you can park somewhere in Gullane, they have all that covered with the locals and cars will be towed away...I'm told.

I suggest when you start to see the signs from outside Edinburgh (if you’re coming from the north or west)...................or north of Berwick upon tweed (if coming from the south) that you switch off your sat nav and follow the correct signage for your particular situation.

When near the area, just take it easy at each roundabout or junction to make sure you get the right road in.

Oh, pets will not be allowed in the course or the car parks. Remember the car parks are some distance from the course. It's all organised, if you follow the correct procedure it should be a doddle.

Could do with a sticky on this for the nextweek or so.

My brothers house is 200 yards from the 1st fairway.
He has 11 house guests this week.
Two sleeping in the summer house and 4 camping on his back lawn.
Times like this makes you glad you bought a dish washer!

Good advice from Thomo, definitely wise not to be a smarty pants in this situation, just do as you are told.
Best to pay a bit more and eat and drink on the course as well, Gullane and NB pubs will be choked.

arent they a week early:whistle:

I baulked at the price of a ticket at £75 but as it gets closer I quite fancy it now especially as I can get there without driving, train journey a mile from my door return £22.

Just shy of £100 before I buy a beer..........hmmmmmmm

Plus im at the races on the Friday. Could be an expensive weekend or if I get lucky a cheap one.

Done Berwick to Edinburgh both today and yesterday early morning and noticed the fact I won't be going my usual way but up to Haddington and in and know from local farmers that will also be parked miles away from the golf course.

Pish, might take the train to Drem.

Edited to say Tommo is right about Gullane....permits only.Dads mate is yards from the course but our idea of parking on his drive is a no no.

Whilst the price is a factor, if you go for a full day on the Thursday or Friday it has to be well worth it. We spent 12hrs there last time on the opening day and it was magic. Planning to do something similar this time as well.

Excellent. I hope this thread degenerates into one about what shoes people wear at golf tournaments as the last one about Wentworth was great. I'm going to wear my Jimmy Choos.

Don't put them on in the car park though! Think you have to ask to use the locker room for that.

Faldo Open at Muirfield, the one that was played in the winter, I wore my dad's shooting boots and two pairs of waterproofs. That's right, one on top of another. There was four of us in the big stand behind the 6th green, we built an igloo out of our brollys.

so whats the best route from West Scotland before having to obey the 'OPEN' travel signs? should I use satnav to a certain point first?
