Good idea this post.

Driving 7/10
Irons 4/10
Short game 6/10
Putting 4/10
Mental 7/10
Total 27/50
This has actually made me think about the areas of my game that I need to work on which is basically all of it.

Surely if you play to your h/cap or better, you have to mark yourself at near ten. I mean none of us are on tour, so marking a 7 out of ten because you didn't middle everything is like looking for perfection. If you attained this, you would not just be on telly, but be world number one. And he isn't happy either.
To me, I am playing at a ten, because I think off my handicap, I am playing well. If I give myself an 8 for driving, because I missed 2 fairways today, I am setting an unobtainable target. Jeez, if I am not missing the odd fairway, I am not hitting it hard enough.

Lighten up.

Give yourselves some credit.

Here goes:

Driving - 6/10
Irons - 7/10
Chipping - 3/10
Putting - 8/10
Mental - 6/10

Total - 30/50. Not bloody good enough. My chipping is woeful for my handicap. Have already decided that it's the short practice ground for me when the weather improves.

I'm kinda with Murph on this one.

Compared to how I want to play, a lowly 1 for everything. Compared to my h'cap, well, that would be a higher score.

If I score it to how I know I can play, (and occasionally do) then that would be better still. But needless to say, no matter how well I do, it's still not good enough.

So in answer to the OP. 1's for everything.

But based on this years games so far, and on my h'cap.

driving 9
pitching 7
chipping 7
putting 8
mental 1

But it's all relative as I ain't happy with thrown away shots and holes!

Great post

Driving N/A
Irons 4
Short Game 4
Putting 8
Mental 5

Total 21/50

Long way to go for me but tomorrow is a key milestone. Aiming to beat my best on the par three. Currently 37.

Bloody hell TIGER thats 34 over on one hole i suggest you sack your coach.

37 on a par 3....that's going some....

Well spotted. :)

LMAO! :D Missed out the word course there! Actually on second thoughts the way I've been playing... :p

This is fun.
I dont know what to put when my game is up and down like a yo yo could be a 10 one minute then a 2 the next, fun to read though. :D

At the moment it would be :-

Driving 6
Irons 7
Chipping 7
Putting 8
Mental 7

Total 35/50

For how I play when i'm rocking and rolling then

driving 7
irons 8
chipping 9
putting 9
mental 8

thats 41/50 , so a little improvement all round but I never feel like my game is ever going to be spot on. I make silly mistakes even when i'm playing well and I have never been a brilliant driver even when at my peak. I've always been a 10/14 fairways hit kinda guy. Always will be...

Driving 8/10
Irons 7/10
Short game 8/10
Putting 7/10 (must read 'Putting out of your mind
by Rotella)
Mental game 6/10 (must read 'Your 15th club' by Rotella!)

Total 36 out of 50

Gordon Bennett, all of these replies and I dont understand the question.
How can you mark yourself out of 10 for each area?
we are all handicappers and as such we are all crap.... well, its all relative isnt it, speak to any pro and they will say they arnt 10/10 in every area.

You can say where you need improvement but scoring yourself is such a trend driven figure. An example, Im hitting my driver really well at the moment, give myself 9/10, next week I could be using the butt end of the driver for all the difference it makes, I could be awful. so is the figure still valid? nope.

Im over analysing the original posters intentions, course I am but as I said its easier to say where needs improvement.
Id actually like to see what my regular fourball score me as it is more realistic and comes from several objective opinions.

Realistically, I play week to week and can have a looksie at my scores both current and retrospectively, its much more fun.

I do agree with Brendy in that it needs to be relative. I put down numbers relating to the last two games I played. I've had a lesson between the two so one was with an old swing which obviously needed remedial work and one which is bedding in. I am never going to be a 10 in any area and may be only a 3 in all aspects on a bad day. What does it actually say that I didn't know from a poor score?

I got to agree with brendy to be honest, why not keep some basic stats and then see where you really are rather than guessing:

Driving - fairways in regulation
Irons - greens in regulation
Putting - Total putts and Putts per green in regulation
Short game - percentage of Up and Downs from within 70 yards

From todays game I can see

Driving - 62 % (or 6.2)
Irons - 33 % (or 3.3)
Putting - 27/2 putts per GIR
Short game - 57 % or (5.7)

Funnily enough although it looks like I should work on Irons, I know improving my Short Game number will have the biggest effect on my score right now, want to get that to around 80%

This has actually made me think about the areas of my game that I need to work on which is basically all of it.

This made me lol.

I'm on iPhone so kinda going to reply to responses generically otherwise I'd be here all night on this tiny flipping keyboard.

From a personal point of view, I know I can improve. I'm 22, Ive been playing for a year and a half and even then it's been with a ruptured ACL. Whilst not comparing myself to pros, I believe that with regular play and practice I will improve.

I'm not close to the best putter I can be, in fact I'm a pretty darn awful one and my scoring reflects how I personally feel about my game currently, not for my last x rounds. Also stats are well and good. In fact i love my stats, but attacking a few pins and really hitting your irons well might feel like better iron play to you than 18/18 GIR.

Anyway regardless of all that it's just fun to see what everybody puts ;) x

Driving - 5/10
Irons - 6/10
Short Game - 5/10
Putting - 3/10
Mental - 3/10

Lost all confidence as I always do during winter golf, no doubt it will take me most of the summer to get back into form and then the season ends :(

My ratings are

Driver - 8/10 When i stop trying to smash it, i'll be 10/10.

Irons - 8/10 I'm hitting them nicely, just need to sort out my accuracy into the greens.

Short game - 3/10 Seriously lacking confidence, commitment and ability to hit anything under 50 yards.

Putting - 7/10 Improved loads from last year, need to cut out the stupid 3 putts.

Mental - 5/10 Starting to improve after listening to Dr Bob but won't reap the benefits til summertime i think.

Although i'm a bit hard on myself, i know i've got enough in my tank to put a few good rounds together and get this handicap down to a more suitable figure.

Driving - 8.5/10
Irons - 7/10
Short Game - 2/10
Putting - 3/10
Mental - 5/10

Total - 25.5/50

Big improvement needed to get down to 4 this year I feel. No guessing what part of my game I have to improve on is there!

I think this is where the info that comes out of Scoresaver 2 is very good. No question about how you score yourself then. It's all there in all its black and white glory.

Have to disagree here HH , if I miss every fairway by 2 inches and the lie is good what difference will these stats make ? MY driving is pooh cos I missed all the fairways or I would say my driving is good cos I didnt ever put myself in trouble. How about missing all the greens by a foot (no GIR) however you use your putter and get down in 2 every time , these would go as up and downs but you didnt even use a wedge , but you look back and think your chipping is sensational for getting 18 up and downs.

Stats are pointless :D
