Rapidly improving golfer aged 63

Oi it’s not a thread about your game matey boy , post in “I played today”

97 yesterday, 99 today, had 4 putts lip or miss by millimetres, didn’t drive well today, I know I have a low 90’s score coming up 👍😬

Fair play mate. Personally I think I've played a lot better than last year, but my handicap has stayed the same - course ratings got lowered so I have to play a shot better than last year just to stay at the same handicap. One more decent round and I should be back in the 14s though which would be nice.

As many of you know, I am a high handicapper with a catalogue of medical issues, both current and historic. Aged 63 and on 1 May I dropped down to 3 days a week working.

12 months ago my index was 25.4
9 weeks ago it was 24.5

In the last 9 weeks I have put in 12 scores, 8 of which make up my counting scores on WHS. my index dropped to 22.7

This has now triggered a handicap review and they have knocked another 2 off my index down to 20.7

In terms of actual shots, off the whites I was getting 31, now 25
Yellows was 29, now 24

I have no idea what triggered the review, but hopefully there is a bit more in the tank. I’ll let you know tomorrow

It just shows that even if you are a crap player, even if you are decrepit, you can still improve at this game 😎👍
I could have written this post last year when I was 63 also. The only difference is i didn’t have the handicap review.
I sincerely hope you don’t follow my path. I have now nearly wiped out the the run of 8 good scores from last year and back to where I started. 😩
Although I do believe that my game is improving again 🤞

60th birthday - 4.5
61st birthday - 3.0 (I had three SDs of 1.9 in my best 8)
62nd birthday - 4.5
63rd brithday - 4.3
64th birthday - 4.6

Started year on 4.6, got to 3.9, then best score dropped off, currently 4.4 with the 65th birthday a few weeks away.

I've been going nowhere really since 1977 when I got to 5.
I'm quite happy with that.
It gets me out of the house.

I think you and I are similar in our golfing history, inc. our scores in the latter years.

I used to use a score tracking website which also had the option to put a bit of a write up. I’ve had way more enjoyment from looking at the screed of who I’ve played with and how we’ve played along with the state of the course & the welcome we’ve had.

The score isn’t the b-all and end-all of our sport.

First game for a couple of weeks
2 9’s of 19 points each, net 94.
Should get 0.4 cut to bring my index to 20.0
And I had a blob

My mediocre target of 18 is looking achievable
One day I’ll break 90 😎😎
